Essential Job Responsibilities:
Teacher:
- Plans and implements a program of instruction that adheres to the system philosophy, goals, and objectives as outlined in the Georgia Standards of Excellence;
- Makes purposeful and appropriate lesson plans that provide for effective teaching strategies and maximize time on task;
- Plans and implements a program of study designed to meet the needs of all students;
- Creates a classroom environment conducive to learning by employing a variety of appropriate teaching strategies;
- Encourages student enthusiasm for the learning process and the development of good study habits;
- Provides progress and interim reports as required;
- Prepares substitute folder containing appropriate information as required by the principal;
- Plans and prescribes purposeful assignments for hospital homebound services, tutors, etc. as needed;
- Recognizes learning difficulties and makes referrals as appropriate;
- Keeps current in subject matter knowledge and learning theory;
- Assists in the ongoing curriculum revision process;
- Becomes acquainted with supplemental services beneficial to students as an extension of regular classroom activities;
- Develops, in accordance with system school guidelines, reasonable rules of classroom behavior and appropriate techniques that are consistently applied;
- Takes necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities;
- Responsibly supervises students during the school day and assigned extra-curricular activities;
- Upholds and enforces Board policy, administrative procedures, and school rules and regulations;
- Maintains appropriate work habits, including regular and punctual attendance and appropriate use of conference and planning time;
- Cooperates with the administration in planning appropriate professional development at a school or at the system level;
- Attends staff, department, and committee meetings as required;
- Evaluates accomplishments of students on a regular basis using multiple assessment methods;
- Makes appropriate adjustments in the instructional program as required by the principal;
- Respects the confidentiality of records and information regarding students, parents, and teacher in accordance with accepted professional ethics, state, and federal laws;
Band Director:
- Directs High School instrumental performances including marching band, orchestra, concert band, jazz band, soloists, and ensembles;
- Establishes performance requirements, enforces academic requirements, and verifies each student's eligibility to participate in band;
- Provides for band participation at extracurricular events, including concerts, football games, basketball games, pep rallies, parades, and community events;
- Organizes and implements band trips in accordance with district policy and regulations as well as student interest and ability. Arranges transportation, lodging, and meals for out-of-town events;
- Complies with federal and state laws, State Board of Education rules, MSHSAA rules, and Board of Education policies;
- Supports band booster club activities;
- Organizes and conducts tryouts for the band; informs administration and participants of final selections;
- Plans, rehearses, and directs musical experiences for the school and community with a minimum of three evening performances per school year;
- Cooperates with the school administration in providing music programs for school productions, graduation ceremonies, and, as appropriate, civic functions that enhance the students' performing experience;
- Oversees scheduling and other arrangements for the rehearsals and concerts in cooperation with the building principal;
- Prepares students and required documents for District and State auditions and competitions. Makes all arrangements;
- Maintains an accurate inventory of school-owned instruments. Controls the storage and use of school-owned equipment and materials; makes minor adjustments and requests repairs to instruments as required;
- Submits budget needs annually to the principal in accordance with established timelines and guidelines;
- Orders all supplies and materials necessary for band-related activities in accordance with established district procedures and budget allocations;
- Develops and implements plans for the instrumental music program and shows written evidence of preparation as required;
- Prepares lessons that reflect accommodations for individual student differences;
- Plans and uses appropriate instructional and learning strategies, activities, materials, and equipment that reflect understanding of the learning styles and needs of students assigned;
- Creates an environment conducive to learning and appropriate for the physical, social, and emotional development of students;
- Other duties as assigned by the principal or other administrative staff.
