AP English Teacher
Job Description:
The DePaul College Prep English Department seeks a collaborative, energetic, and positive educator for the role of an AP English teacher. The ideal candidate is a qualified teacher with the following characteristics:
- Works collaboratively with a course team to build and adjust common curriculum and summative assessments, following the Understanding by Design framework;
- Consistently monitors student learning data (quantitative and qualitative) to determine and adjust daily instructional decisions;
- Provides regular feedback in various forms as part of the learning process in each unit;
- Can teach using an array of text forms and a diversity of voices in the following: fiction and poetry (both “classic” and contemporary), nonfiction, and multimedia;
- Values student choice and voice in the classroom and in the curriculum;
- Seeks to improve their own teaching craft by collaborating with colleagues, utilizing professional development opportunities, and engaging in student-centered instructional coaching at school;
- Can teach in a department that values and utilizes independent choice reading as a component of each course, or willing to learn if lacking this experience;
- Works collaboratively with the English Department to improve vertical alignment toward shared department goals and philosophies;
- Values and seeks to understand the cultural and social identities of each student in their class;
- Ability to integrate culturally responsive practices into daily teaching.
Qualifications:
BA degree plus active Illinois PEL (teacher certification)
MA degree in the content area is preferred
Experience with AP Literature and Composition or AP Language and Composition
