POSITION: Heavy Equipment Operator
SALARY: $22.36 – 25.92 / hour DOE
REPORTS TO: Heavy Equipment Operator Senior
LOCATION: Mount Tolman Fire Center, Nespelem District
Basic Functions: Employee must be diversified in the operation of Heavy Equipment while maintaining earth, gravel and paved roads on the Colville Indian Reservation roads system. Work duties shall include maintenance. The work program is based on Quality while skillfully and safely operating the following (but not limited to) Heavy Equipment: motor grades, bulldozers of various sizes, rubber tired front end loaders, scrapers, Heavy Equipment transport (haul truck), pneumatic or steel roller, backhoes, tractors, 10-12 C.Y. Dump Truck, snow plows and sander trucks. Equipment operator shall perform all preventative maintenance on equipment being operated and report all deficiencies to the CCT DOT manager, Foreman, or Lead Equipment Operator. Physical activities and projects could include, but are not limited to: clearing of right of ways with chainsaws, culvert clearing, crack sealing, dura patching, bridge sign/ delineator installation.
Education and Training:
- Requires a High School diploma or GED and (5) five years of work experience which involves the operation of Heavy Equipment AND experience driving commercial vehicles.
- Possession of a valid Washington State Driver license and MUST include a Valid Class A CDL. Must be eligible for the Tribes’ vehicle insurance
- MUST qualify for a U.S Government Motor Vehicle Operator’s Identification Card
- Tanker Endorsement, Flagging Card, First Aide/ CPR within (6) six months of hire date
- Red Card certification within (6) six months of hire date
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Requires Knowledge of Earth and Gravel Maintenance
- Working knowledge of Heavy Equipment routine maintenance procedures
- Working knowledge & ability to perform general maintenance/ repairs to assigned equipment
- Knowledge of hazards & safety precautions applicable to the operation on Heavy Equipment
- Knowledge of Reservation Districts and area roads
- Working experience driving large trucks
- Willing to work flexible hours, which may include weekends, holidays and extended hours beyond a regular 40 hours a week
- Ability to execute both oral & written instructions
- Ability to drive in adverse weather conditions
- Ability to operate Heavy Equipment
- Ability to report to duty station within 30 minutes as needed
- Ability to work overtime, evenings, weekends, holidays, or as assigned.
- Required to lift at least (75) seventy-five lbs.
Note: Pursuant to Tribal Policy, if this position is safety sensitive it is subject to pre-employment drug testing. In addition, this position is subject to reasonable suspicion and post-accident drug testing.

If required of this position, you must possess and maintain a valid Washington State driver’s license and be eligible for the Tribes’ Vehicle Insurance. In addition, this position may be subject to pre-employment background clearances. If applicable, these clearances must be maintained throughout employment.
