Job description

The Healthy Harvest Coordinator supports the success of Goodwill Northern Michigan's Food Rescue mission and effectively administers Food Rescue's operations and community relations activities, as well as builds positive and professional relationships with community partners, volunteers, and donors.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Support the mission and vision of Goodwill Industries of Northern Michigan.
  • Perform work in a safe manner by observing all Goodwill safety policies and procedures.
  • Interact with all Goodwill team members, clients, and customers in a professional manner.
  • Respect the diversity of others, including but not limited to, those with cultural, ethnic, and gender differences, individuals experiencing homelessness, and persons with visible and non-visible disabilities.
  • Build and manage relationships with farmers, food donors, and NFC members.
  • Ensure a clean, safe working environment that complies with the Michigan Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, MIOSHA and other agencies.
  • Greet and assist volunteers, donors, agencies, partners, and other visitors at the Food Rescue warehouse.
  • Schedule on-route pickups and deliveries in coordination with Food Rescue Director.
  • Prepare and update route sheets for Food Rescue weekly routes.
  • Coordinate off-route and warehouse pickups in coordination with Food Rescue Team Lead.
  • Coordinate rescuing food from the Farmers Markets in service area.
  • Schedule, coordinate, and solicit Healthy Harvest gleans.
  • Coordinate quarterly surveys of the Northwest Food Coalition membership in partnership with the Northwest Food Coalition Coordinator.
  • Manage organization of program files, rental invoices, and office supplies.
  • Manage donor and agency data into database.
  • Coordinate volunteer group events.
  • Drive Food Rescue vehicles for off-route pickups.
  • Drive as a fill-in driver on Food Rescue routes, if needed.
  • Direct volunteer repack events as a backup.
  • Other duties as assigned by manager.

Reports to: Food Rescue Director

Supervises: None

Education, Licenses, Certifications and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree preferred.
  • Valid driver’s license with clean driving record.
  • Have or ability to obtain a Chauffeurs License.
  • Have or ability to obtain a Food Manager Certificate.
  • Have or ability to obtain a Hi-Lo certification.
  • Have or ability to obtain DOT Medical Certification.
  • Professional or volunteer experience at Food Rescue, Food Bank, or Food Assistance Organizations preferred.
  • Professional or volunteer experience with the food service industry preferred.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Ability to build relationships and work professionally with a variety of constituents including partners, staff, donors, volunteers, and community members.
  • Organizational skills and ability to follow up with accuracy and precision.
  • Ability to follow directions and to take initiative.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, database software, and good understanding of computer software, browsers, and operating systems.

Physical Requirements:

  • Routinely sits, stands, walks, bends, stoops, carries, pushes, pulls, bends, twists, kneels, reaches and stretches throughout the workday.
  • Ability to lift 50 pounds unassisted, with occasional heavy lifting, exerting 50-100 pounds of force.
  • Occasionally drives trucks and Goodwill vehicles.
  • This position is considered a Safety Sensitive position and is subject to zero tolerance under the Goodwill Industries of Northern Michigan Drug Free Workplace Policy.
