About this Role! 

The HIM Technician is responsible for managing electronic patient records and information in our outpatient clinic. This position involves compiling, processing, and maintaining patient records in compliance with medical, administrative, ethical, legal, and regulatory requirements. The HIM Technician is responsible for handling both paper and electronic documents, processing information releases, scanning clinical documents, and managing historical records and transcription files. This role demands collaboration across various departments and with external partners to ensure efficient Health Information and records management.

 

As a Health Information Management Technician, you will:  

  • Maintain high-quality documentation processes by adhering to federal, state, and agency regulations.
  • Execute administrative tasks such as releasing, faxing, and mailing confidential records and documents.
  • Deliver outstanding customer service to clients, families, and third parties.
  • Ensure compliance with laws, regulations, and agency standards, and answer related queries.
  • Uphold client confidentiality and secure communication of records information.
  • Inform clinicians about the availability of records for retrieval and disclosure.
  • Manage offsite storage records, ensuring quality control and accurate tracking.
  • Support clinical document management, coordination of care, and data-entry tasks.
  • Catalog and maintain records in compliance with document retention protocols.
  • Document and communicate operations, irregularities, and ongoing needs.
  • Participate in department projects, systems reporting, and user training.
  • Work cross-departmentally on projects to enhance healthcare operations.
  • Attend departmental meetings and events related to Health Information Management.
  • Undertake other related duties as required.

  • Microsoft Suite Proficiency: Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, demonstrating skillful use of these tools for effective document creation, data management, and communication.
  • Communication Proficiency: Excellent oral and written communication skills, capable of conveying complex information clearly and interacting professionally with a diverse range of individuals.
  • EHR System Familiarity: Solid understanding and familiarity with electronic health record systems, demonstrating the ability to navigate and utilize these systems effectively.
  • Regulatory Knowledge: In-depth knowledge of HIPAA and other relevant healthcare regulations, ensuring compliance in all aspects of Health Information Management.
  • Workflow Management: Proven ability in creating and managing efficient workflows, and optimizing processes for better productivity and accuracy.
  • Preferred Skills

o   EHR System Expertise: Proven experience in supporting and administering Electronic Health Record (EHR) systems, demonstrating proficiency in managing and optimizing these platforms.

o   EHR Billing Proficiency: Hands-on experience with EHR Billing platforms, showcasing the ability to navigate and manage billing processes effectively.

o   Medi-Cal/County Billing Knowledge: Solid experience with Medi-Cal and county billing procedures, reflecting an understanding of the specific requirements and processes involved.

o   Training Skills: Experience in conducting New Hire EHR Training, highlighting the ability to educate and onboard new staff effectively regarding EHR systems.

o   DocuSign Proficiency: Demonstrated experience as a DocuSign Sender or Administrator, illustrating skills in electronic document management and processing.

o   Audit Experience: Practical experience with county and internal auditing, showing an ability to ensure compliance and accuracy in record-keeping and documentation.

o   Language Skills: Bilingual abilities, particularly Spanish-speaking skills, are highly desired, enhancing communication with a diverse client and staff base.

 

About your background (Education/Experience): 

Preferred Skills:

  • A B.A. or B.S. degree is preferred or commensurate with experience working with a health care entity.
  • 3+ years in a healthcare-related role.
  • 3+ years in a high-volume administrative position, dealing with medical and billing records.

 

Physical Requirements: 

  • An employee in this position may be required to occasionally lift, move, and/or set up stacks of documents such as marketing materials up to 25 lbs., laptop computers, podcast equipment, etc. 
  • The employee will also be required to work for extended periods at a computer.

 

Compensation:

  • Salary Range: $21.00 to $27.00 Hourly
  • Pay Type: Hourly

The actual base hourly rate is dependent upon a variety of job-related factors such as professional background, training, work experience, location, business needs, and market demand. This pay range is subject to change and may be modified in the future.
