Position: Health Care Fraud Investigator
Location: Work will be performed at the following location:
- USAO-Toledo Branch Office, Four Seagate, Suite 308 Toledo, Ohio 43604.
Position description: Advent Services is seeking a qualified Health Care Fraud Investigator. The experienced investigator will perform all investigative tasks associated with affirmative civil rights matters, including independently conducting interviews and records gathering for civil rights matters opened in the USAO, or matters being investigated and/or litigated jointly with the Civil Division. The investigator will be responsible for assisting AUSAs in identifying fraud trends and responding to matters which are presented to the United States Attorney’s Office.
Mandatory Qualifications:
- Sufficient experience, education, training, and skills to satisfactorily perform the requirements of the tasks below.
Tasks:
Conduct preliminary inquiry into allegations and draft memoranda recommending whether to open a full civil investigation. For full investigations, responsible for planning and conducting the investigation independently.
- Reviews allegations and supporting materials; conducts preliminary research in computerized databases, and contacts complainants, advocates, and others with relevant information.
- Assess specific nature of allegations.
Plan, coordinate, conduct and evaluate in-depth affirmative HCF investigations at locations throughout the District.
- Drafts documents and data requests designed to obtain all relevant information.
- In consultation with HCF AUSA's, plans and conducts on-site investigations, to include interviews with victims, witnesses, managers, and officials.
- When appropriate, utilize Concordance, Casemap and/or Sanction software to plan and develop timelines or documentation that compile and present information gathered from the investigation in a manner allowing for full and complete analysis.
- When appropriate, plans and manages databases cataloging voluminous evidence and investigative reports relating to allegations of federal Health Care Fraud violations. Extracts and categorizes material obtained from the investigation for inclusion in database.
- Makes necessary support arrangements with information system personnel and, in conjunction with HCF AUSA's, arranges for necessary litigation support.
- Analyzes information contained in applicable databases. Identifies and focuses on supporting facts and evidence that may become apparent. Prepares reports for review by HCF AUSA's, USAO management, and the HCF Division.
- Supports HCF Attorney in court proceedings by briefing attorney on pertinent facts, issues and case law, and by compiling, organizing, and indexing exhibits. When necessary, obtains information, confers, and coordinates with Health Care Fraud Division and other Department of Justice components.
- Assists HCF Attorney in pretrial preparations by preparing scheduling, reviewing, and organizing discovery; notifying, interviewing and managing witnesses and researching case law.
When necessary, obtains information, confers, and coordinates with HCF Division and other Department of Justice components.
At the direction of HCF AUSA's, plans and conducts necessary background legal research.
Prepares factual summary and evaluation based on investigations, in conjunction with HCF AUSA's, develops recommendations as to action that may be justified against particular
jurisdictions or agencies.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
