Broadstep Academy is an NJDOE approved private school serving students and families seeking alternative methods and treatment in meeting the needs of students with autism, behavioral challenges, and intellectual/developmental disabilities. Our dedicated and engaged staff delivers a strength-based educational model, in comfortable learning environments, with relevant, interactive experiences. Our program goal is to maximize each student's desired outcome for life by achieving higher levels of success at school, home, and in the community.
Our school is growing and we are looking for a creative, energetic, and passionate Health and Physical Education Teacher to join our team to:
1. Provide meaningful and engaging Health and Physical Education lessons that meet the requirements and the New Jersey Core Curriculum Content Standards for Health and Physical Education.
2. Promotes standards in safe, healthy, physical fitness activities including the promotion of good sportsmanship.
3. Provides fundamental motor skill development.
4. Utilizes a variety of learning materials and activities and utilizes discussion and questioning techniques effectively.
5. Assesses and monitors students' progress frequently and by appropriate means, feedback, and modifying the lesson as needed.
6. Reports accurate and relevant information regarding student progress and achievement at conferences, IEP meetings, drafts PLAAFP's, on report cards, on progress reports and to administrative staff as needed.
7. Participates in school-based committees in developing programming and curriculum for the students.
8. Establishes supplemental activities and non-competitive events to promote recreation, leisure, and socialization.
9. Provides clearly articulated behavioral expectations to students and provides students with feedback and reinforcement regarding their behavior.
10. Applies the school-wide behavior program.
11. Enforces school rules consistently and contributes to the maintenance of a safe and orderly environment.
12. Maintains constructive relationships with other staff members.
13. Maintains positive and appropriate relationships with students.
14. Seeks assistance from appropriate personnel whenever student related or school related problems occur.
15. Implements student-related intervention plans and other plans related to the daily operation of the program as directed by an administrator.
16. Other duties and/or projects as assigned.
17. Adheres to RHA Health Services Organizational standards of behavior.
Qualifications
Education, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:
1. Bachelor's Degree in Physical Education, Health, or related field.
2. NJDOE Criminal History Review.
3. Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
4. Proficient computer skills that may include but are not limited to Microsoft Office and/or Google Suite platforms.
Licenses and Certifications Required:
1. NJDOE Teacher of Health and Physical Education or NJDOE Teacher of Health and Physical Education Certificate (Standard, CE, or CEAS)
2. First Aid CPR AED Certification, or completed within the first 90 days of employment.

  • Name checked in the registries. (OIG exclusions database, Child Abuse Registry, and Offenders Against Individuals with Developmental Disabilities)
  • Drug testing
  • Education verification and other credentialing based on position requirements.
  • Proof of employment history or references (if required)
  • Positions that require driving Proof of driver's license, driver's insurance, and vehicle, IF required for providing transportation for individuals.
