We are currently hiring a Part-time Health & Fitness Coach as part of our Independent Living Resident Services Team.

The Health and Fitness Coach is responsible for working in accordance with established policies and procedures, and/or special instruction from the Director of Resident Services.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Work one-on-one with residents to customize fitness routines based on personal needs, help set specific and measurable goals, and track progress. 
  • Communicate with program staff, instructors and volunteers.
  • Oversees a full range of fitness and wellness programs including, but not limited to, strength training, balance and functional fitness, nutrition and hydration, aerobics, yoga, dance, cardio, conditioning, mindfulness, regressing/progressing mobility and range-of-motion movement to encourage overall wellness and increase body-confidence.
  • Maintain scheduling and calendar for fitness classes and activities.
  • Manage gym including coaching residents on proper and safety of machines and coordinating regularly scheduled maintenance of equipment.
  • Design materials to encourage participation in the fitness classes, engage residents in a wide variety of fitness classes and instruct classes as needed.
  • Collaborate with physical therapists to assist residents transitioning from physical therapy plan to an independent exercise regimen.
  • Host informational and educational meetings on Health and Fitness including National Senior Health & Fitness Week.
  • Conduct program visits to observe staff techniques and evaluate staff and program effectiveness.
  • Research, purchase, organize, distribute and maintain inventory of program supplies and equipment.
  • Ensure residents receive the highest quality of service in a caring and compassionate atmosphere which recognizes the individuals' needs and rights.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications

Job Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in recreation administration, kinesiology, exercise science, health education, sports or related field, and a minimum of three years’ experience coordinating, implementing and supervising recreation classes/programs, supervising staff and volunteers, leading fitness programming; or any combination of education and experience that provides equivalent knowledge, skills, and abilities.
  • Current certification from American Council on Exercise, American College of Sports Medicine, or National Strength & Conditioning Association, or National group exercise certification.
  • Organizational skills and the ability to prioritize multiple tasks, work under tight deadlines, and use effective time management.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with a diverse clientele and staff, both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to problem solve.
  • Experience working cross-culturally and/or commitment to work towards improving one’s own cultural competence, i.e., valuing difference/diversity, recognizing personal limitations in one’s skills and expertise and having the desire to learn in these areas.
  • Certification in CPR or willingness to obtain within 6 months of employment.
  • Leadership experience and knowledge of fitness and health programming.
  • One-year experience working with older adults.
  • Must have current experience with Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel).
  • Must present self in a professional manner.
  • Must possess concern, responsiveness, and tact when dealing with colleagues, residents, and their families.
  • Must be able to work collaboratively with others to help colleagues achieve respective goals.
  • Must have completed or be willing to complete educational requirements imposed by State regulations within the specified time-frame.
