Position Summary
Big Bend Community College (BBCC), a rural college serving vibrant, culturally rich communities in the Columbia Basin of Central Washington invites applications for a Head Women's Softball Coach in the college's Athletics Department.
The Head Women's Softball Coach will teach softball techniques and skills for collegiate competition, teach related conditioning and theory classes, recruit and prepare a team for NWAC competition. This position requires strong verbal and written communication skills and positive customer service skills.
This is a part-time, exempt position with an annual stipend of $8,500. The stipend will be pro-rated based upon the start date and the remainder of the fiscal year. Additional campus employment may be available based on the individual's qualifications and interest. This position is not benefit or overtime eligible.

Essential Job Duties
  • Provide administration, leadership, and direction for the intercollegiate Women's Softball program.
  • Teach individual softball skills and strategies; build, develop, and evaluate teamwork; and develop and enforce training rules.
  • Monitor and support the academic performance, leadership, and progress of student-athletes with an emphasis on retaining student-athletes.
  • Scout and recruit student-athletes who are qualified, both academically and athletically, for intercollegiate competition.
  • Establish, develop, and maintain positive relationships and effective communication with local area club and high school Softball Coaches and programs.
  • Conduct intercollegiate programs in accordance with the Northwest Athletic Conference (NWAC) and established college and athletic department rules and regulations.
  • In collaboration with the Director of Athletics, work cooperatively with Student Activities leaders and staff.
  • Develop collaborative and collegial relationships with other coaches, student leaders, and staff in the department and throughout the campus community.
  • Fully participate in athletic activities, including departmental meetings, outreach and fundraising events, and other relevant functions as requested.
  • Develop, implement, and evaluate practice and game/tournament schedules.
  • Schedule all team travel arrangements.
  • Compile and report team scores and statistics in a timely fashion.
  • Assist with advising, registration, and financial aid processes of student-athletes.
  • Work closely with college communications and marketing staff to develop website and promotional materials for Women's Softball.
  • Organize fundraising activities to enhance and develop athletic programs.
  • Coordinate and oversee summer camps and clinics.
  • Inventory and track assigned athletic equipment.
  • Maintain and improve existing fields and facilities, including general preparation and maintenance.
  • Work closely with Facilities Coordinator to staff home games/tournaments.
  • Understand and comply with the policies and procedures of the college
  • Complete and process appropriate paperwork in an accurate and timely manner.
  • Maintain and manage a budget and track team and program expenditures to ensure spending is appropriate and within the provided budget and Title IX guidelines.
  • Maintain and manage student-athlete scholarship awards.
  • Maintain a demeanor on the field/court that is professional and exhibit behavior away from the field/court that is representative of college and athletic department missions and policies.
  • Work closely with the Director of Athletics, Dean of Students, and Vice-President of Learning and Student Success to ensure student-athlete behavior is appropriate both on the field/court and away from the field/court.
  • Issue discipline in accordance with the BBCC Student Code of Conduct and BBCC Athletic Standards.
  • Perform additional tasks as requested by the Director of Athletics.

Minimum & Desirable Qualifications
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
  • A Bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited institution OR an equivalent combination of education and experience as determined by the college.
  • High School and/or College level softball playing and/or coaching experience.
  • Current valid unrestricted driver's license.
  • Current CPR/First Aid certification or willingness to obtain within the first six (6) months of employment.

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Demonstrated supervisory & management experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to plan, organize, and manage a program.
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and cooperatively with faculty, students, and staff within a campus community; and the ability to foster positive resolutions when conflicts occur.
  • Teaching and teambuilding, related to student-athletes.
  • Experience managing budgets and coordinating schedules.
  • Academic advising, particularly when working with student-athletes.
  • Program fundraising and development.
  • Ability to use a personal computer, Microsoft Office products, and database programs.
  • Familiarity with policies, regulations, and objectives of the athletic codes of the Northwest Athletic Conference (NWAC).
  • Bilingual English/Spanish proficiency
