Job Duties

Richard Bland College (RBC) is a two-year, residential, liberal arts transfer institution that focuses on preparing students for transfer to highly ranked colleges and universities. The College is a hidden gem located outside the Tri-Cities region—and its rural setting featuring 750+ acres of wetlands, bucolic forest, and the state’s oldest and largest pecan grove.
Richard Bland will be entering its third season of having a women’s basketball program. Just in the first year the team finished National Runner-Up in NJCAA Division II. The successful candidate will report directly to the Director of Athletics. In conjunction with the Athletic Director the successful candidate will be responsible for all phases of the women’s basketball program in accordance with National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) rules and work to maintain the nationally recognized status of the program. Primary duties include recruiting and assisting with the education and development of the student athlete. This includes instruction on how to perform their sport, balance academic and athletic commitments, and maintain their health, work as a team both in their sport and as part of the school. Richard Bland College is a member of the NJCAA and a member of Region 10.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:
  • Recruit and retain qualified student-athletes and ensure timely submission of their academic records for admissions; responsible for meeting the college-identified annual recruiting goal for the program.
  • Develop strategies to motivate individual and team athletic performance along with appropriate personal and social conduct both on-campus and off-campus
  • Plan and execute practices, game preparation, and coach in-game
  • Provide management and direction to assistant coaching staff and training personnel
  • Participate in the development and management of the team budget
  • Coordinate all home events, to include setup, scheduling referees, and training of any home event staff
  • Coordinate team travel and required documentation; follow College policies and procedures
  • Actively participate in campus programs and manage the development and coordination of community service projects for team members
  • Coordinate team fundraisers to help supplement operational expenses
  • Perform additional responsibilities at the college as assigned

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution
  • Considerable coaching experience (High School, Club or College) or playing experience as a collegiate athlete
  • Strong interpersonal, organizational and communication skills; ability to effectively interact with faculty, staff and students
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Enthusiastic commitment to the Richard Bland College mission, vision and the goals of the RBC strategic plan

Additional Considerations

  • Considerable experience playing or coaching at the collegiate level
  • Background and experience working within a collegiate recreation and/or athletic department
  • Experience with the management of students and complex student schedules
  • Working knowledge and understanding of NJCAA or NCAA policies and procedures
  • Proven ability to coordinate successful team fundraisers
