Department Overview

The Head of Retail Sales Strategy & Communications is accountable to lead the development of sales and service strategies, processes, programs and tools to support achievement of retail bank objectives. The role will lead the collaboration with and among product groups, retail banking leaders, marketing, shared services and other groups to develop a comprehensive strategy and associated tactics for delivering sales and service via the retail store network, to grow volumes and market share and ensure a consistent customer and employee experience.

Depth & Scope:

  • Provides people management leadership by hiring the best talent, setting goals, developing staff, managing employee performance and compensation decisions, promoting teamwork and handling any/all disciplinary actions, as required
  • Defines, develops, communicates and implements sales strategies, programs, processes and tools to strengthen the sales culture, business results and market share for Consumer Banking in support of the overall business strategy
  • Leads the collaboration with and among product groups, retail banking leaders, marketing, shared services and other groups to develops a comprehensive strategy and associated tactics for delivering sales and service via the retail store network, translates strategies into programs and processes, and operates mechanisms to monitor ongoing effectiveness
  • Identifies and implements sales and other performance metrics to determine effectiveness of processes / programs / tools developed and implemented
  • Oversees and executes strategies for reward & recognition, retail initiatives support, LEI and the overall Customer Experience, and building sales and advice capabilities
  • Ensures a high level of collaboration with business units and partners such as Wealth, Small Business, Commercial Lending, etc.
  • Develops and maintain relationships with key business leaders including the regional leadership teams and other stakeholders such as Money In and Money Out product, Wealth Management and Mass Affluent, other Distribution channels, Retail Distribution Strategy & operations, Service Strategy, Bank Operations, Technology, HR, etc.
  • Ensures a consistent employee experience – executes strategies to attract, motivate and retain a highly qualified sales team to achieve business objectives and to fully engage employees
  • Ensures business operations are in compliance with applicable internal and external requirements (e.g. financial controls, segregation of duties, transaction approvals, and physical control of assets) and that appropriate escalation processes are followed
  • Develops and maintains relationships both externally (with major clients, community groups, centers of influence etc.) and internally, ensuring a high, positive public profile for the organization

Job Requirements

  • Must be eligible for employment under regulatory standards applicable to the position.

Qualifications

Education & Experience:

  • Bachelor’s Degree required; Masters Degree preferred
  • 15 + years of related experience
  • 3+ years of sales leadership experience in a Retail senior management role required
  • Demonstrated leadership and relationship management skills with a superior ability to make things happen through the use of impact and influence, negotiation, and consensus building
  • History of making an impact, developing and executing on strategies and delivering superior results both in the short term and long term
  • Strategic mindset and thinking history of making an impact, developing and executing strategies, and delivering both quick wins and long-term value-added results
  • Strong people leader with demonstrated experience in identifying and growing talent, along with an ability to influence others to impact change
  • Excellent communication skills both verbal and written; experience in preparing and presenting executive level recommendations Ability to effectively multi-task and manage competing high priority initiatives, with flexibility to adapt to rapidly changing requirements
  • Proven ability to get things done delivering on time & on budget while inspiring greatness in ourselves and in our partners
