Head Pharmacist for an Online Pharmacy

Reports to: Director of Operations

Management: Will have at least one Staff Pharmacist and up to one Pharmacy Technician with growth opportunities for more staff and interns.

Location: Dallas, TX, (Oak Lawn Area)

Employment: Temporary, Temp to full-time or Full-time

Time-to-fill: Immediate/urgent

Schedule: Monday through Friday, Day Shift

Be responsible for the overall daily operations and supervision of the pharmacy department including but not limited to operational and clinical services. Such services include, but not limited to supervising staff, purchasing, preparation and distribution of drugs; clinical oversight and interaction with medical staff; and oversight of appropriate/timely submission/reconciliation of drug claims.

· Responsible for the establishment, monitoring and enforcement of policies and procedures which encourage and maintain the standards of professional practice as such standards related to the dispensing of pharmaceuticals and conformance with Board regulations and all other applicable state and federal laws and regulations.

· Responsible for all activities related to dispensing medications.

· Work collaboratively with administrators, physicians, and staff to provide quality care.

· Ensure that billing documents and inventory control records are completed and accurate.

  • Participate in continuing quality improvement activities.
  • Responsible and accountable for operational & pharmaceutical budgets ensuring that the operation of department is within budget guidelines and providing explanation of significant variances. Prepare annual pharmacy budget projections.
  • Ensure strict compliance with all standardized professional policies and procedures.
  • Participates in the selection and hiring of pharmacy staff including pharmacists, technicians, and support staff.
  • Provides supervision and oversight of pharmacy staff. Completes yearly staff performance appraisals and works with their staff for self-improvement.
  • Develops pharmacy staff weekly/monthly schedule.
  • Works in collaboration with pharmacy staff to increase their clinical effectiveness and counseling skills.
  • Assist with the development, use, analysis, and feedback of clinical performance measurement indicators, processes, and audits.
  • Maintains strict control over distribution and usage of government-controlled products such as narcotics and barbiturates.
  • Ensure appropriate record keeping for each prescription filled for pharmacy files, for control files on narcotics, poisons, habit-forming drugs or for billing records.
  • Inventory experience to ensure inventory control of pharmacy stock to an acceptable turnover to minimize the number of expired medications and semiannual physical inventory processes are completed.
  • Oversees the implementation and documentation of drug recalls through established policy and procedures, which are followed in a timely manner, including documentation, required detailing the disposition of such drugs.
  • Develops, implements, monitors, and participates in QA activities within the department.
  • Provides clinical & operational aspects for specialty medications.
  • Periodically consults with the practitioners in the clinic regarding patient treatment.
  • Prepare monthly pharmacy reports as needed.

· Licensed pharmacist requires graduating from a college or school of pharmacy accredited by the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE), such as a Doctor of Pharmacy Program (Pharm.D.) program and passing the North American Pharmacist Licensure Exam, or NAPLEX.

· Hold a current, unrestricted pharmacist license in the state of employment.

· Successful experience working in a high-volume retail (ambulatory) or online pharmacy setting.

· Prior experience supervising and training pharmacists.

· Be detail-oriented, able to multi-task and possess good people skills.

· Possess both written and verbal communication skills to interact with patients and clinic staff.

· Preferable knowledge of 340B billing practices.

Constant standing or walking about is required. Manual dexterity is required for sustained periods.
