Thermo Fisher Scientific is making a significant investment in the dynamic and rapidly growing Advanced Therapies (ATx) space. The ATx organization within the Pharma Services Group, is one of the fastest growing areas of Thermo Fisher Scientific and includes contract development and manufacturing services focusing on mRNA, plasmids, and autologous and allogeneic cell therapy production.

The ATx Head of Supply Chain will be responsible for maximizing Supply Chain efficiency and effectiveness to meet the demands of a rapidly growing manufacturing operation.  The scope of this position covers responsibilities for the development, optimization, and execution of plans and strategies related to effective planning and purchasing of raw materials for the organization as well as management of the business unit’s S&OP processes.  These functions support the organization's business strategies that impact the business unit and overall company results. 

What will you do?

  • Accountable for global Supply Chain processes and direction of Supply Chain personnel across three manufacturing sites including direct management of US based personnel.
  • Responsible for direct material inventory management for the network including but not limited to inventory analysis, inventory projections, and management of slow moving, obsolete, and expiry inventory to mitigate financial exposure
  • Responsible for material planning of direct materials for the network including monitoring and managing MRP, safety stocks, and material risk analysis to support new program launches
  • Responsible for purchasing of all direct materials including PO execution and management at Carlsbad and San Francisco sites
  • Ownership and facilitation of ATx S&OP process
  • Manage weekly raw material huddles for the sites to discuss and mitigate short term material issues
  • Facilitate ongoing root cause and corrective action reviews for raw material issues to improve material readiness
  • Maintain Bill of Materials (BOM) in ERP system including regular BOM audits to maintain accuracy between BOMs and actual usage
  • Help to maintain strong client relationships by participating and coordinating staff participation on client core teams to monitor and manage material readiness for planned batch starts
  • Work closely with the Program Management, Operations, Corporate Procurement, Logistics, and Process Engineering, and Finance to meet business goals
  • Responsible for monitoring and managing key performance indicators for the department including performing ongoing root cause and corrective actions to support continuous improvement
  • Manage a team of material planners and buyers as well as warehouse and logistics personnel
  • Provide leadership and support on other Supply Chain management initiatives as required

How will you get here?

  • BA/BS degree in Supply Chain Management and / or Chemical Engineering required.
  • Minimum 8 years' experience leading Materials Management or Supply Chain functions
  • 5 years’ experience in Pharmaceutical/Biopharmaceutical or related industry
  • Experience in the cell and gene therapy industry a plus
  • Comprehensive end-to-end Supply Chain experience
  • Strong proficiency with an ERP system (preferably SAP) required
  • ISM, APICS, CSCMP Certification a plus

  • Sound knowledge of Current Good Manufacturing Practice (cGMP) and Standard Operating Procedures (SOP).
  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint). 
  • Proven ability to think independently and handle multiple projects through to completion.
  • Must be detail oriented, organized, and insure follow-up in a very timely manner.
  • Excellent interpersonal, analytical/problem solving and communication skills. 
  • Strong Project Management Skills

Compensation and Benefits

The salary range estimated for this position based in California is $130,000.00–$194,950.00.

This position may also be eligible to receive a variable annual bonus based on company, team, and/or individual performance results in accordance with company policy. We offer a comprehensive Total Rewards package that our U.S. colleagues and their families can count on, which includes:
