Head Golf Professional at Sparrows Point Country Club

Established in 1925, The Sparrows Point Country Club is a privately owned club that overlooks the waterfront, featuring an 18-hole championship golf course, marina, tennis facility, Olympic size pool, and a full-service clubhouse that provides service from casual to formal dining and wedding-to-special events.

The Head Golf Professional has a key role at Sparrows Point Country Club and is responsible for the total Golf operation. This role works closely with the General Manager and directly supervises the Assistant Professionals and Outside operations team. The Golf Professional is the public face of this department and should offer a hands-on approach and an understanding that member satisfaction and staff engagement is critical to success in this position. The role consistently ensures superb golfing and experiences for the Club's Members and Guests. The relationship with the Golf Superintendent and Food and Beverage Manager is very important to this position, ensuring collaborative and harmonious relationships between these departments.

Compensation

  • $80,000 to $85,000 yearly salary plus an estimated $10,000 in golf lesson income.

Principal Responsibilities

  • All daily golf activities include golf carts, a bag room, a golf shop, and special tournaments.
  • Ensure associates clearly understand performance expectations and assigned tasks are reasonable, well-conceived, and appropriately conveyed. Provide resources necessary to allow employees to perform their jobs effectively and be fair and firm in adherence to club policy and procedure.
  • Celebrate successes, have a genuine and sincere desire to “win” and be excited to elevate, innovate, and grow the reputation for golf operational excellence.
  • Take personal ownership of his or her area of responsibility, with special attention to the physical plant and overall appearance of the operation, and understand the need to be consistently “member ready” in both appearance and service.
  • Supervise the Assistant Professionals and Outside Operations Team. To help control payroll, COGS, and Golf miscellaneous expenses. Approve personnel service schedules prior to posting and approve all invoices/purchases, physically conduct Golf Shop inventory with an Assistant Professional.
  • Explore innovative avenues for increasing Golf operations gross and net dollars to plan on a per month/period basis by concentrating strongly on increasing golf participation.
  • Work with the Food and Beverage Manager and/or Events Coordinator to plan and coordinate Special Golfing Events focusing on increasing member/guest usage and revenues through proper planning and marketing.
  • Develop a Training Program and ensure that it is implemented correctly and utilized consistently in the development of the Assistant Professionals and Outside Operational staff.
  • Do all paperwork related to service, i.e., payroll analysis, inventories, total rounds, weekly schedule, etc.
  • Develop and lead the golf instruction and golfer development programs for all member segments.
  • Develop and lead a fun, active junior golf program.
  • Ensure that the Club is in strict compliance with all Purchasing Agreements and that all Club Golf programs are properly marketed, executed, and tracked.
  • Responsible for the proper interviewing/hiring of all new Golf personnel.
  • Conduct annual performance reviews on the Assistant Professionals and Outside Operations staff.
  • Work with all Golf personnel in promptly and effectively handling Member/Guest complaints.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Candidate Qualifications

  • Work Experience: Minimum of 3 years preferred experience in Golf Operational Management PGA/LPGA Professional Certification Completion.
  • PGA/LPGA Class A Professional Certification
  • Budget Control/Responsibility Total Golf Operations
  • Security/Confidentiality Access to confidential material and circumstances
  • Computer experience and familiarity with Club Essentials are preferred.
  • Excellent communication skills and outgoing personality

Educational Requirements

  • A high school diploma or general education degree is required.
  • A bachelor’s degree from a four-year college is desirable.
  • PGA Member is desireable
