Job description

Primary Purpose:
Provide instruction and coach students to develop skills and ability to excel in football.
Contribute to the education program as a whole and to growth of students involved in athletics.
Qualifications:
Education/Certification:

  • Bachelor's Degree Required
  • Valid Texas teaching certificate

Special Knowledge/Skills:
  • Knowledge of football coaching techniques and procedures
  • Knowledge of University Interscholastic League (UIL) rules
  • Ability to instruct and supervise student-athletes at a high level
  • Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills

Experience:
  • Three years as a coordinator and/or Head Football coach experience

Major Responsibilities and Duties:
Instruction
  1. Use a variety of instructional techniques and media to meet the needs and improve the abilities of the student-athletes participating in the football program.
  2. Manage and supervise football practices, contests, and activities to promote individual growth in skills, teamwork, and good sportsmanship.
  3. Work with other members of the school staff to plan and put in place instructional goals and objectives to ensure the overall educational development of football players.
  4. Assist the middle school football program in effectively implementing a program aligned with the high school program.

Program Management
  1. Establish performance criteria for competition and evaluate students' abilities initially and on a regular basis.
  2. Take all necessary precautions to protect the student-athletes, equipment, materials, and facilities.
  3. Keep informed of and ensure compliance with all UIL rules.
  4. Monitor and enforce student eligibility criteria for extracurricular participation.
  5. Work with the Executive Director of Extracurricular Programs to schedule competitions and coordinate arrangements.
  6. Develop and coordinate a continuing evaluation of the coaching program and make changes based on findings.

Student Management
  1. Accompany and supervise student athletes during football contests on out-of-town trips.
  2. Instruct and advise students and parents on NCAA regulations with regard to academic requirements for scholarships and recruiting practices.
  3. Apply and enforce student discipline during football games, practice sessions, and while on trips off school property in accordance with the Student Code of Conduct and the student handbook.
  4. Encourage, by example and through instruction, sportsmanlike conduct in all phases of athletic participation.

Communication
  1. Establish and maintain open communication by conducting conferences with parents, students, principals, and teachers.
  2. Leads in conflict resolution with administrators, parents, teachers, staff, and the community concerning students that are involved in the athletic program.
  3. Works with the Executive Director of Public Relations and Communications to direct publicity concerning the football program to all news media.

Administration
  1. Assist in the selection of equipment and instructional materials.
  2. Compile, maintain, and file all physical and computerized reports, records, and other documents required.
  3. Maintain a current inventory of all fixed assets within the program.
  4. Oversee the process of cleaning, repairing, and storing all campus football equipment.

Professional Growth and Development
  1. Strives for self-improvement through participation and attendance in local, regional, and/or state professional organizations pertaining to football.
  2. Seeks, accepts, and responds to evaluative feedback from subordinates, peers, and super-ordinates, utilizing such information to improve performance.
  3. Exhibits personal conduct in keeping with the highest professional and ethical standards.

Supervisory Responsibilities
Supervise assigned assistant coaches and student athletic assistants.
Working Conditions
Maintain emotional control under stress. Frequent district-wide and statewide travel; frequent irregular and prolonged hours; outdoor exposure to sun and heat as well as other varied climatic conditions.
