The Head Football Coach is responsible for all aspects of the football program. The Head Football Coach is required to abide by the TSSAA rules and regulations as well as the rules and regulations set forth by Grace Christian Academy. In order to be successful in this job, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. A Head Coach at Grace Christian Academy shall:
1. Have received Jesus Christ as personal Lord & Savior.
2. Believe that the Bible is God's Word and standard for faith and daily living.
3. Be in whole-hearted agreement with the school's Statement of Faith and Christian philosophy of education.
Essential Functions:
The Head Football Coach is expected to:
1. Represent Grace Christian and the football program in a positive, professional manner.
2. Promote a positive culture within the football program and school, including strong student academic achievement, daily student attendance and learning how to set and achieve individual and team goals.
3. Manage and supervise football activities, contests, and practice sessions to promote individual growth in athletic/football skills, teamwork, discipline, respect, and good sportsmanship.
4. Use a wide variety of instructional techniques and technology to meet the needs and improve the abilities of student athletes in football.
5. Work with other members of school staff to plan and put in place instructional goals and objectives to ensure the overall educational development of student athletes.
6. Work with the coaches of other sports to create a true atmosphere of support among all our athletic and activity programs.
7. Ensure all Football Coaches work together toward a common goal within the football program and provide unity within the youth community programs.
8. Coordinate the development and promotion of the football program.
9. Hold organizational meetings for team prospects and encourage potential athletes to participate in the football program.
10. Establish performance criteria for competition and evaluate students athletic abilities initially and on a regular basis.
11. Develop a regular, daily practice schedule and organize practice time to provide both individual and team development.
12. Hold a preseason meeting with all student-athletes and parents before the first official game.
13. Assess players skills and assign team positions.
14. Determine game strategy based on the teams capabilities.
15. Monitor and enforce student eligibility criteria for extracurricular participation.
16. Apply and enforce student discipline during athletic contests, practice sessions and while on trips off school property.
17. Always encourage and demonstrate sportsmanlike conduct in all phases of athletic participation.
18. Take all necessary precautions to protect student-athletes, equipment, and facilities, including protecting students from hazing/bullying
19. Secure all football equipment and uniforms.
Professional Qualifications (preferred):
  • Five years experience as Head Football Coach at the high school level or experience as a head/assistant coach at the collegiate level.
  • Proven track record of success
  • Must possess dynamic and effective coaching techniques and skills.
  • Must possess knowledge of the rules, regulations, strategies, and techniques of the sport of football.
  • Must possess the ability to establish and maintain positive, effective working relationships with the school administrators, faculty/staff, parents, students, alumni, governing organizations (TSSAA) and opponents.
  • Proven ability to promote excitement around the program by attracting and retaining players and program supporters.
  • Ability to develop and cultivate relationships with local media outlets

Other Duties and Responsibilities:
Submit required lists and reports (roster for eligibility and for programs) to the Athletic Director in a timely manner with all the required information
Assist in the collection of required student athlete forms (physicals, emergency contacts, etc.)
Set up scouting procedures and schedules
Completely discuss procedures and responsibilities with assistant coaches
Keep abreast of new techniques and innovations by attending clinics and reading material
Promote the program to the students, parents, and community
Assist in the recruitment, interviewing, hiring, and training of assistant coaches
Assist the Athletic Director in scheduling contests
Other duties as assigned by the Athletic Director
