This is an at-will position.
- Develop and implement a comprehensive coaching strategy to maximize the potential of student-athletes.
- Lead practices, drills, and game-day strategies to enhance individual and team performance.
- Provide mentorship and support to athletes, promoting personal growth and character development.
- Foster a positive team culture built on mutual respect, discipline, and accountability.
- Collaborate with academic advisors and faculty to monitor the academic progress of student-athletes.
- Promote a culture of academic excellence, provide resources and support to help athletes balance athletics and academics.
- Encourage accountability and time management skills to ensure academic success.
- Ensure compliance with all college, conference, and NJCAA rules and regulations.
- Manage budgetary resources effectively, including travel expenses, equipment purchases, and facility usage.
- Coordinate scheduling of games, practices, and other team activities in collaboration with the athletic department.
- Recruit talented student-athletes who embody the values and standards of Salt Lake Community College.
- Build relationships with high school coaches, attend recruiting events, and evaluate prospective players.
- Implement retention strategies to ensure academic and athletic success throughout each player’s college career.
- Serve as an ambassador for the basketball program and Salt Lake Community College within the local community.
- Engage with alumni, fans, and supporters through events, fundraisers, and outreach initiatives.
- Promote the college’s values and mission while fostering positive relationships with external stakeholders.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Bachelor’s degree required.
- Three (3) years of coaching within an intercollegiate environment.
- Master’s degree.
- Head coaching experience at the NJCAA or NCAA level.
- Familiarity with the fundamental concepts, practices, and procedures of a competitive athletic program.
- Knowledge of NJCAA conference and region rules and regulations.
- Strong organizational and record-keeping skills.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication abilities.
- Ability to work effectively within a team environment.
- Ability to communicate effectively with a broad range of diverse people, ability, culture, and ethnic background, to maintain good working relationships across the College.
- Ability to work with all groups in a diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, and ethnic background of community college students, faculty, and staff, including those with disabilities.
- Provide supervision and guidance to assistant basketball coach.
- Ensure adherence to college policies and procedures for purchasing, storing, cleaning, issuing, and maintaining equipment and supplies.
- Manage athletic injuries in accordance with established training/medical protocols, OSHA guidelines, and risk management and insurance procedures.
