Salary** Head Brewer Job Description**
Head Brewers are responsible for many duties related to making beer, including selecting ingredients, creating unique beer recipes, preparing beer mixtures and overseeing fermentation processes. Head Brewers are experienced in breweries or equivalent environments and are an expert in beer-making.
Reports To: Chief of Operations - Iowa
Supervisory Responsibility:
Part-Time and Full-Time Brewery staff members.
Essential Job Functions:
- Serve as the head manager of the brewery.
- .Oversee and manage the necessary day-to-day business operations for the profitability of the brewery (sales, marketing, quality control, quality assurance, inventory control, finance/accounting, state & federal taxes, business development, purchasing, regulatory, safety, and relations with customers/distributors/other breweries).
- Provide chemistry and manufacturing control for both Mahaska BrewCo and alcohol division.
- Ensure quality control practices are being implemented and followed in accordance with all laws, including State and Federal regulations.
- Ensure and responsible for all finished goods to meet State and Federal food safety standards and regulations.
- Ensure that chemistry and manufacturing controls are implemented and followed in accordance with all laws, including State and Federal regulations.
- Communicate departmental progress, development, and initiatives to Chief Marketing Manager, Chief of Operations - Iowa, Chief of Staff and CEO regularly.
- Oversee brewing processes from start to finish.
- Oversee team who handles the day-to-day tasks of brewing beer while maintaining quality standards, managing inventory and responsible for final results.
- Provide training and development for current and new team members within the department.
- Meet with the Chief Marketing Manager, Chief of Operations - Iowa and Chief of Staff frequently to discuss growth, opportunities and status of achieving objectives and goals set.
- Responsible for all new product development either in the alcoholic or non-alcoholic beverage categories. (Select ingredients, experiment, and create unique recipes that will be part of Mahaska BrewCo).
- Brewing and fermenting the beer, cleaning the tanks, sanitation of the brewery, managing department finances and overseeing contract services (mobile canning, wholesale can sales, and contract brewing).
- Facilitates future growth of the brewery through continuous optimization of SOPs, developing/maintaining business relationships outside the brewery and finding new avenues for sustainable long term revenue growth.
- Organizes, coordinates and assists in all scheduling planning and operations (brewing, packaging, mobile canning, contract brewing, cold brew coffee).
- Oversees cold brew coffee production and product development projects.
- Coordinates all inspections to ensure all State and Federal regulations are maintained.
- Must have reliable and regular attendance on site.
