Reports to: Principal for Hallway Monitor related portion of the position
and
Business Manager for the Courier portion of the position.
Description: Monitors student activities to maintain a safe and orderly school environment.
Collect, sort and delivers school mail to the appropriate locations in the District.
Minimum Qualifications:
  • High school diploma.
  • Documented evidence of a clear criminal record (FBI and BCI).
  • Self-directed and able to learn required skills for the position.
  • Valid Ohio Department of Education Permit appropriate for the assignment.
  • Valid driver's license with good driving record.
  • Must be eligible to be bonded.
  • Congenial disposition and strong interpersonal skills.
  • Training in ALICE, Crisis Prevention Intervention, Blood Borne Pathogens and other topics as determined by Supervisors.
  • Multitasking ability and strong interpersonal skills.
  • Additional qualifications as the Board of Education may require.

Duties and Responsibilities (Hallway Monitor):
The following duties are representative of performance expectations. A reasonable accommodation may be made to enable a qualified individual with a disability to perform essential functions.
  • Patrols/monitors assigned areas as directed.
  • Proactively identifies security issues.
  • Is vigilant and addresses situations that may indicate a problem (e.g., students in distress, unusual behavior, strangers, etc.).
  • Responds to emergencies.
  • Documents all security incidents and/or injuries.
  • Does not permit students to loiter. Verifies that students have permission to be in hallways during scheduled class periods.
  • Directs visitors to the office.
  • Upholds Board policies and follows administrative procedures.
  • Promotes a favorable image of the school district.
  • Monitors activities on adjoining properties. Documents and reports risk factors (e.g., loitering, graffiti, property loss/damage, etc.)
  • Maintains high standards and upholds the student conduct code.
  • Exercises caution when physical restraint is required.
  • Maintains effective relationships with community law enforcement officers.
  • Follows established protocols to request police intervention.
  • Promotes the proper use and care of school property.
  • Reports discipline problems, vandalism, or other related concerns to the Principal.
  • Works cooperatively with all staff members.
  • Enforces safety regulations. Ensures that clear routes are maintained to fire exits.
  • Assists with building evacuations during emergencies.
  • Maintains accurate records and submits reports on time.
  • Respects personal privacy. Maintains the confidentiality of privileged information.
  • Reports evidence of suspected child abuse as required by law.
  • Participates in staff meetings and professional growth activities as directed.
  • Strives to develop rapport and serve as a positive role model for others.
  • Performs other specific job-related duties as directed.

Duties and Responsibilities (Courier):
  • Performs all courier duties in accordance with District policies and administrative guidelines.
  • Collects, sorts and delivers all in-district mail.
  • Provides other delivery services as directed.
  • Performs other specific job-related duties as directed.
  • Any other duties requested by the Business Manager or designee.

Working Conditions:
Exposure to the following situations may range from remote to frequent based on circumstances and factors that may not be predictable.
  • Potential for exposure to blood borne pathogens and communicable diseases.
  • Potential for interaction with disruptive and/or unruly individuals.
  • Exposure to adverse weather conditions and seasonal temperature extremes.
  • Duties will require operating and/or riding in a vehicle.
  • Duties may require working under time constraints to meet deadlines.
  • Potential for exposure to danger in emergency situations (fire, intruder).
