QUALIFICATIONS: Master’s Degree in Guidance & Counseling with School Counseling

Appropriate State of Ohio certifications/license

Experience working with children

Preferred Experience:

· Experience working with High School Students and a strong foundation for building report with students

· Demonstrates a working knowledge and/or experience with scheduling, testing, character education, social emotional learning, career exploration and fosters occasions to support and helps students grow

· Demonstrates a working knowledge of current trends, best practices and innovation related to a comprehensive school counseling program and student support system

· Commitment to building strong relationships with student body that develops excellence and character in STEM and career readiness instruction

RESPONSIBILITIES:

· To implement developmentally appropriate and prevention-oriented group activities to meet student educational, personal, social, occupational, placement and related problems in planning and adjustments.

· Works collaboratively with teachers in studying, diagnoses, and understanding students; plan, conduct group guidance activities; utilize community resources; and participate in in-service education.

· Develop and incorporate life skills that students need to be successful in the twenty-first century into their program.

· Collaborates and works with administrative staff and other school personnel in planning, developing and conducting the total guidance program, curriculum study and research.

· Accurately and appropriately uses assessment procedures for determining and structuring individual and group counseling services. Provides appropriate and timely information to school personnel related to student needs.

· To guide and counsel all students, individually or in groups with developing academic, career and personal/social skills, goals and plans, which may include, but is not limited to:

1. Accurately and appropriately interprets and utilizes student data;

2. Assists teachers, parent/guardians and other stakeholders in interpreting and understanding student data;

3. Collaborates with parents/guardians and educators to assist students with educational, career and life planning;

4. Collaborates and consults effectively with parents/guardians, teachers, administrators, and other educational/community resources regarding students with identified concerns and needs. Implements effective referrals and follow-up processes as needed.

5. Uses available technology resources to enhance school counseling

6. Planning and/or promoting programs which enhance the academic, social or emotional growth of students, e.g., Curriculum Fair, Career Fair, Underclass Honors Assembly & Senior Honors Program, Graduation, opportunities for student enrichment and/or remediation, scholarship opportunities and parent informational programs;

7. Meeting with seniors each semester and mailing updates on their graduation status to their parents;

8. Monitors students behavior, attendance and academic performance and facilitates appropriate interventions;

9. Ensuring that students are aware of requirements for graduation and college admission;

10. Guiding each student to choose courses consistent with his/her interests, abilities and career plans;

11. Helping students develop post-secondary educational plans in accordance with their interests, abilities and career plans;

12. Assisting students with the completion of college admissions applications;

13. Organizing and promoting standardized assessment opportunities and interpreting test results to students and/or parents on request;

14. Assisting the principal in the preparation of diploma lists and identification of honor graduates in preparation for the Senior Honors Program and Graduation;

15. Assuring that appropriate, accurate information is maintained in each student’s permanent, cumulative record; and

16. Making necessary schedule changes for individual students that are both appropriate for their abilities and aligned with their educational and career plans.

17. To facilitate small groups for individual students with identified common needs

· To consult with and serve as a resource for students, staff and parents regarding developmental needs of students, which may include:

1. Identification and referral of students for Child Study Meetings;

2. Creation and oversight of Section 504 plans;

3. Active participation in Special Education meetings

4. Conferences with individual students who have experienced a death in the family or serious illness and notification of their teachers.

5. Collaborates with teachers to better help them understand students with physical or emotional challenges.

· To refer students and parents/guardians to appropriate school and community resources;

· To participate in, coordinate, conduct activities which contribute to the effective implementation of the high school component of the K-12 guidance curriculum;

· To evaluate and revise the building guidance and counseling program;

· To assist in the development of a District Assessment Program and the interpretation of testing and assessment results related to career guidance; and

· Actively participates in personal professional growth and development.

· Other duties as assigned by administration

Requirements:

Master’s Degree in Guidance & Counseling with School Counseling

Appropriate State of Ohio certifications/license
