Job description

If you're a driven, results-oriented professional with a passion for hospitality, the Emily Hotel in Chicago is looking for you! Our team is looking for a sales Manager who will be responsible for new business development and account management by building and establishing relationships with customers. This Sales Manager will consistently meet financial goals and be a leader within the hotel.

What Will You Do?

  • Research, solicit and generate new leads for group opportunities through database research and proactive sales efforts, maximizing new room revenue streams, to meet and exceed lead generation goals.
  • Coordinate customer specifications (including room, food and beverage and meeting space requirements) via identified lead management system. Enter and maintain pertinent account and booking information in Opera Sales and Catering in accordance with defined standards.
  • Ability to communicate customer needs internally and work with other departments to ensure we exceed expectations.
  • Ability to provide solutions that both achieve and protect the financial goals of the hotel while strengthening relationships with customers.
  • Develop a full working knowledge of the operations and policies of the hotel and applicable departments.
  • Implement a targeted and direct strategic plan to penetrate specific markets within group market as directed supervisor.
  • Work closely with the supervisor to develop and achieve outlined objectives.
  • Maximize the use of all promotion/distribution channels to maximize domestic and international sales opportunities.
  • Maintain strong visibility in local community and industry organizations as applicable.
  • Conduct creative site inspections.
  • Respond to inquiries and create proposals within 24 hours.
  • Maintain complete knowledge of all hotel services/features and hours of operation.
  • Promote positive relations with guests and employees.
  • Maintain a high level of knowledge of the competition’s product.
  • Maintain up to date client communications in Opera Sales and Catering, including group status (prospect, tentative, definite and turned down), applicable BEOs, and other information to liaise with other hotel departments.
  • Create action plans on a quarterly basis or as requested by supervisor.
  • Achieve or exceed assigned quarterly financial goals.
  • Positively contributes to the achievement of overall hotel goals in ADR, Occupancy, and RevPAR.
  • Achieve the assigned target goals for proactive sales efforts (i.e., site inspections, prospecting calls, etc.).
  • Create an annual travel calendar that supports market segment growth.
  • Plan and prepare appointments for sales trips. Create pre-trip and post-trip reports in a timely manner.
  • Attend meetings as required.
  • Ensure the financial success of hotel by ensuring that all bookings are profitable for entire hotel.
  • Provide feedback to the Director of Sales and Marketing on changing conditions, including trends in the competition, because of direct solicitation in their market areas.

What You Bring?

  • Good planning and organizational skills
  • The ability to work calmly under pressure.
  • Prior sales experience in a hospitality environment preferred.
  • 1-3 years’ experience in a Sales Manager capacity preferred
  • The ability to travel occasionally out of town/state/country.
  • Multitasking skills a must
  • Ability to satisfactorily communicate in verbal and written English with guests, management, and co-workers to their understanding.
  • Knowledge of operations on the Hospitality Industry
  • Must be able to stand in one place for extended periods of time, and to remain on feet for up to 8 hours.
  • Four year college degree preferred. Minimum two years in sales capacity in a comparable hotel/resort. Additional experience in events, rooms, and/or reservations preferred.
  • Technologically sound with Microsoft Office applications.
