Ground Systems Engineering Lead / Active Secret / Space Programs

Responsibilities
Peraton is seeking a Systems Engineering Team Lead to join our team in Las Cruces, NM to support our NASA Space Exploration Network Services and Evolution contract (SENSE). In this position, you will manage experienced entry level professionals who exercise latitude and independence in their assignments. You'll plan, conduct, and supervise assignments generally involving larger and more important projects or multiple projects usually focused on communication Ground Systems.
As prime contractor on the SENSE contract, Peraton is responsible for the operation, maintenance, sustainment, and Systems Engineering of NASA's worldwide satellite communication networks. This position will be responsible for:

• Functions as a technical expert who provides management, leadership in the requirements, design, development, and delivery of technology-enabled applications, products, and services within a technical environment focused on antenna Ground Systems.
• Participate in and provide input into KDPs, SE documents, design, re-design and development of technology products and applications. Contribute to and often lead project development life cycle.
• Also responsible for the technical integrity of projects while providing technical guidance to department staff, program, and project levels.
• Functions as day-to-day lead on assigned projects and works with leadership to perform evaluations and feasibility reviews of creative concepts and technology solutions.
• Act as a point of escalation and resolution during the project lifecycle as it relates to technical decisions.
• Determine and provide a necessary level of technical documentation during requirements gathering, based on technical services group standards and procedures and discussions with project staff, industry experience, and technical vendors.
• Assist with scoping, identification of project deliverables, and creation of project-specific documentation such as functional requirements, technical requirements, etc.
• Conduct and/or assist in engineering technical assessments and trade off studies to maintain, sustain and or/replace communication/antenna ground system elements.
• Proactively work with producers to ensure that appropriate staffing resources are assigned and effectively utilized at the appropriate time.
• Work closely with resources to create test plans and ensure that issues are properly assigned, fixed, and regressed.
• Review weekly, monthly, and quarterly project status reports to ensure projects are technically sound and meeting milestones.
• Communicate daily regarding project status with appropriate team members.
• Provide technical consultancy to department staff and participate in business development efforts including proposals, development plans, and presentations, as directed.
• Evaluates and determines changes in methods or procedures in assigned area of responsibility.
• Determines candidates for employment/termination, conducts performance evaluations and salary reviews for assigned staff and is responsible for the application of company policies.

Qualifications
Required Experience

• Bachelor's degree or higher in Aerospace, Engineering, Physics, Computer Science, Mathematics, or related technical field).
• 6+ years of experience performing as a systems engineer developing operations concepts, requirements, system specifications, system interface documents, and supporting technical reviews.
• Prior experience working with space communication systems or NASA system engineering lifecycle processes.
• This position requires the candidate to already have an active SECRET security clearance and to maintain that clearance.

Desired Experience

• Master's degree or higher in Systems Engineering, or other related technical fields.
• Have a demonstrated track record of successful KDPs and team leadership.
• Prior experience mentoring, guiding, and training teams is preferred.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with attention to detail and accuracy while understanding broader technical issues.
• Ability to work in both a team environment and independently as a proactive self-starter.
• Excellent organizational skills such as prioritizing and completing multiple tasks within critical deadlines.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.

Target Salary Range
$66,000 - $106,000. This represents the typical salary range for this position based on experience and other factors.
