The Ground Support Equipment Lead (GSEL) is responsible for the day-to-day maintenance activities, the diagnostic, repairs and inspection of military/civilian light, medium and heavy wheeled equipment power generation, and Ground Support Equipment. Works along with team members, and sets the pace.


Responsibilities

MAJOR JOB ACTIVITIES:

  • GSE Lead Mechanic will direct the work of other mechanics and provide support to maintenance team to ensure satisfactory levels of customer service are maintained for internal and external customers.
  • Inspects, tests, and operates wheeled equipment (commercial and Military) to determine equipment serviceability and proper operation.
  • Uses automated Logistics Information System to maintain equipment records, and document maintenance actions, maintains wheeled, construction and grounding systems.
  • Removes, disassembles repairs, cleans, treats for corrosion, assembles, and reinstalls components and accessories.
  • Disposes of hazardous materials and waste in accordance with all state, local, and federal environmental standards and regulations.
  • Operates, cleans, inspects, and services wheeled equipment for maintenance purposes.
  • Practices good housekeeping, property accountability control, Foreign Object Damage prevention and safety at all times.
  • Additional responsibilities include working with a variety of repair and test equipment including Maintenance support Device MSD-V3/V4, pressure testers and electrical testers to name a few.
  • Performs other duties as assigned to meet organizational/operational objectives.
  • Job duties and responsibilities may change due to contractual requirements.

MATERIAL & EQUIPMENT DIRECTLY USED:

  • Extensive use of basic shop equipment, diagnostic equipment, hand tools, power tools, air tools, and lifting devices.
  • Steel Toe shoes are required.
  • Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is required in certain areas while work is being conducted. Such PPE includes, but is not limited to: Face Mask, head, foot, hand, vision and hearing protective devices. Periodic use of computer systems and multi-function devices (MFD).

WORKING ENVIRONMENT:

  • Work is generally conducted in a shop environment. However, duties may involve the conduct of work in the outdoors area with a potential exposure to extreme climatic condition.
  • Work requires stooping, climbing, prolonged standing, prolong sitting and occasional working in cramped and awkward position.
  • Frequent exposure to conditions of inclement weather, extreme heat and cold, high/low humidity, blowing sand and dust, and working in confined spaces and at heights.
  • A normal work week is 40 hours (5 days a week). Must be willing to work additional hours when mission requires.

PHYSICAL ACTIVITIES:

  • Must be able to climb up and down ladders and stairs, as well as bend, twist, and squad for prolonged periods.
  • Must be able to pull, push and lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Function in conditions of inclement weather, extreme heat and cold, high/low humidity, blowing sand and dust, and working in confined spaces and at heights.

Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION/CERTIFICATIONS:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Must have at least three (3) to six (6) years of experience as an inspector of military vehicles.
  • At least eight (3) years of maintenance team lead experience within medium-sized military support organizations or equivalent, plus a comprehensive knowledge of supply and services.
  • Must have the ability to acquire and maintain a Common Access Card (CAC).
  • Must possess a valid State Driver’s License, Commercial Driver’s License preferred.
  • Must be able to successfully pass a pre- employment drug screening.
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen.

Skills and Experience:

  • Must be proficient in servicing, troubleshooting and repairing military and civilian wheeled power generation and Ground Support Equipment.
  • Must be familiar with the use of electronic technical manuals.
  • Working knowledge of GCSS-Army preferred.
