ABOUT THE ROLE:
Holcim US, a leading supplier of quality, construction building materials in the United States, has an immediate opening for a Ground Person to support Asphalt Production Operations in Crofton, Maryland. The position is primarily responsible for operating heavy rolling machinery to grade specifications to the construction of parking lots, driveways, sidewalks, and various other surfaces. The Roller Operator distributes, breaks down, compresses, and gives a finished surface to cooling asphalt.
WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING:
- Unloads tools, setup equipment and prepare work area,
- General maintenance knowledge
- May operate a variety of hand tools as well as some equipment
- Thorough understand all aspects of the paving industry including preparatory work, grades, drainage, paving patterns, aggregate size, job specifications, oil consistencies, compaction and other details related to asphalt paving,
- Performs equipment maintenance duties such as cleaning, greasing and maintaining fluid levels on equipment; will also assist with equipment cleanup as needed,
- Work outdoors in changing weather conditions, around hot asphalt and asphalt paving equipment,
- Complete all assigned tasks in a timely and efficient manner, with high standards for quality and safety
WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR:
- Education: High school diploma or equivalent
- Required Work Experience: 2 years experience
- Manual dexterity, eye-hand coordination, good physical fitness, a good sense of balance, and an ability to work as a member of a team.

- Reliable transportation
- Ability to work in team environment
- Must have the ability and be willing to work a 8-12 hour day/shift,
- Must be able and willing to walk, stand for long periods of time and perform strenuous physical labor including lifting items at least as heavy as 50 pounds
- Must have the ability and be willing to work outside in extreme weather conditions
- Must be willing and able to work in tight spaces and at high distances off the ground
