Hiring Timeline:

Flexible Location, U.S.-based.

Remote work with travel required for this position on average 5–10 days per month in the U.S. with opportunities to travel internationally.

Compensation:

Annual salary between $77,000-$91,000, commensurate with experience, skill, and need. Salaries are determined using an equity salary calculator that factors an employee's need, experience, and responsibilities, including traditionally invisible labor. This is a full-time exempt position.

Grassroots Global Justice Action Fund (GGJAF) advances visionary U.S. domestic and international policy interventions at the intersections of climate, racial and gender justice, and economic transformation.

GGJ Action Fund endorses, engages, and advocates for candidates who seek to support programs that have the potential to shift the U.S. economy from one devoted to military spending, policing, and environmental destruction to one that works on a local, state, tribal, and national level in support of a feminist, antiracist, and regenerative economy.

GGJ Action Fund is rooted in grassroots communities in the U.S. and a significant portion of our policy work is shaped by our international allies and grassroots member leaders.

Position Summary: The GGJ Action Fund Director will provide strategic leadership to build alignment and the clear goals necessary to grow the engagement of working class grassroots communities in policy and electoral organizing. They will oversee the political direction and program leadership of the c(4) structure; lead strategic planning and implementation; fundraise for the work of the organization; coordinate the GGJAF Member Working Group; and represent GGJAF publicly on a national and international level with members, movement allies, and funders.

The GGJAF Director will support the Resource Development Team in fundraising efforts and Organizing Team in connecting to grassroots organizations. This position will report to the GGJAF CEO and work closely with the GGJAF Board. Grassroots Global Justice Alliance (GGJ), GGJAF’s sister organization, cost shares and acts as the paymaster for this position.

Job Responsibilities

Lead c4 Strategy Development (30%)

  • Lead strategy development and program coordination for electoral engagement work that builds trans-local power and advances the vision and strategy of GGJ Action Fund
  • Identify and cultivate partnerships with individuals, organizations, and institutions that GGJ and GGJAF can collaborate with. Represent GGJAF in building strategic alliances and tactical partnerships
  • Work with Policy and Strategy staff to coordinate policy and strategic objectives
  • Analyze and monitor electoral trends in local, state, and national landscapes. Share assessments and updates with the Organizing Team, GGJAF Board, and GGJAF Working Group
  • Develop and manage ballot endorsement processes and candidate endorsements

Lead Resource Mobilization (20%)

  • Work with Resource Mobilization team to identify prospects for GGJ Action Fund
  • Maintain relationships with GGJAF funders and donors to keep them updated on plans and make requests for funding
  • Create and manage GGJ Action Fund budget, share grant writing and reporting with the GGJ Resource Mobilization Team
  • Engage in organizing funders and donors toward the program goals of GGJAF

GGJ Action Program Planning & Implementation (25%)

  • Develop organizational plan to support local and regional electoral efforts and experiments
  • Act as liaison between GGJAF and GGJ staff teams to ensure communication and coordination around key aspects of work, including new work plans, developing assessments, emerging partnerships, etc.
  • Work with Policy and Strategy teams to identify best policy opportunities: carry out ongoing tracking and monitoring of key electoral and policy fights, opportunities, and potential threats
  • Provide strategic guidance and technical support to priority electoral campaigns. Ensure our practices reflect our values, priorities, and participatory decision-making
  • Foster strong member engagement and ensure transparent endorsement processes
  • Work with staff team and member groups to maintain 501(c)4 / 501(c)3 legal compliance practices
  • Participate in team meetings, staff meetings, and comply with GGJ Action Fund policies and processes

Lead c4 governance and oversight (10%)

  • Coordinate the GGJ Action Fund board meetings: prepare materials and logistics
  • Coordinate with HR team to ensure legal and financial compliance
  • Coordinate occasional contractors and help grow the GGJ Action Fund staff

Represent GGJAF in movement spaces (5%)

  • Bring GGJ Action Fund perspective to movement spaces
  • Prepare member leaders to represent GGJAF in these spaces as needed
  • Gather, track, and share back powerbuilding lessons and successes from national and international exchanges

Support maintenance of GGJAF’s shared internal digital systems, including (5%):

  • Files, receipts, finance forms, shared calendar, materials inventory, digital security protocols
  • File sharing (cloud services)
  • Staff communications (Internal messaging systems and calendaring)
  • Overall team task management via software and database systems

Participate in GGJAF team (5%)

  • Active and timely response on all communications (email, phone, texts, messaging apps)
  • Attend weekly virtual meetings with staff, members, and allies
  • Participate in and support preparation for quarterly in-person staff meetings, annual Coordinating Committee meetings, GGJ Action Fund Board, and other events as necessary
  • Compliance with GGJ/GGJAF remote working policies and procedures (calendaring, availability online, response time to communications, receipts, etc.)

Required Qualifications and Experience

  • At least 10 years of organizing experience in U.S.-based Black, Indigenous, and people of color-led grassroots base-building social justice organizations
  • At least 7 years of fundraising experience
  • At least 1 year of field electoral experience, including volunteer and voter mobilization, preferably in a federal election year
  • Knowledge of the national landscape of electoral organizing; familiarity and political alignment with some of the GGJ frameworks of Global Well-being (Climate Justice), Just Transition, Grassroots Feminism, and Grassroots Internationalism
  • Familiarity with the relationship between 501(c)3 and 501(c)4 organizations, and experience coordinating between sibling 501(c)3 and 501(c)4 organizations
  • Excellent interpersonal and relationship building skills, with the ability to engage with diverse audiences, tune into others’ feelings, thoughts, and motivations, and earn trust by consistently demonstrating integrity, authenticity, and professional competence
  • Ability to work remotely, manage and prioritize multiple work tasks, maintain attention to detail and accuracy, and ability to identify and communicate items needing further attention
  • Ability to write and speak English
  • Experience in multiracial, multigenerational,and multicultural settings
  • Knowledge of common computer applications: MS Office, Google Workspace, Adobe Suite, and Zoom video conferencing systems
  • Ability to work flexible hours (evenings and weekends), including communicating with allies in other parts of the world in different time zones
  • Willingness to travel: An average of 5–10 days per month in the U.S., and 10 days per year internationally
