Brown and Caldwell (BC) has a dynamic opportunity for a full-time Graphic Design Lead in our growth-orientedengineering, environmental consulting, and construction firm. We are looking for a strategic Design Leader with proven project management, branding, art direction, and layout skills to lead projects in collaboration with technical subject matter experts--communicating complex visual information with innovative creative solutions for our clients and communities.

The Graphic Design Lead will partner with Creative Services leadership to implement design standards, best practices and project management processes that contribute to the evolution of exceptional design delivery for our clients. Detailed Description:

This is an exciting opportunity for a highly creative, driven designer to apply a blend of design expertise and strategy to guide teams to re-imagine complex problems that result in innovative visual solutions. The successful candidate will work directly with clients and internal technical staff to solve complex design challenges, understand their needs, and create within specified branding standards. Although remote work is allowed, the ideal candidate would be located near any BC office, preference of Denver, CO, Seattle WA, Raleigh NC, Charlotte SC, Columbus OH, Portland, OR areas. Expectations and Key Responsibilities:

  • Leads creation of graphics, layout, and design support for client work products, presentations, and related collateral.
  • Works on a variety of projects with various internal and external teams, focusing on the design and development of client billable projects and supporting graphics and presentations.
  • Creates strong, innovative designs while adhering to BC brand guidelines, visual identity, and templates. Implements client’s visual standards and style guides as required.
  • Aligns with clients and project teams as a professional consultant to discuss client needs and design options, present design solutions, advocate for choices, and coordinate client feedback and revisions.
  • Engages with project teams to understand and visualize simple and complex data-based infographics, and persuasive editorial formatting to enhance messaging through strategy-driven storytelling and convey technical information in a simple way in print documents and presentations.
  • Scopes Graphic Design project work with technical partners to ensure proper budget and schedule.
  • Partners with Creative Services leadership to improve resources, tools, processes, guidelines and strategy for supporting visual client deliverable projects by gathering feedback, identifying development opportunities, and integrating results into team strategy.
  • Collaborates with the Creative Services leadership team and other leaders to plan, delegate, and manage creative workload.
  • Documents creative processes, requirements, best practices and products, and supports streamlined graphic development in collaboration with colleagues across the organization.
  • Manages and prioritizes multiple deadlines simultaneously while following standard processes and best practices as part of the Creative Services design community

Minimum Qualifications

  • Portfolio required for consideration: A strong and relevant portfolio including samples of document/publication layout and presentation design showcasing creativity; ability to design in a wide variety of styles; eye for design details, and fluent understanding of design fundamentals (color theory, typography, alignment, hierarchy, rhythm, composition, brand guidelines, etc.). Acceptable formats include a site link or attached PDF.
  • 5-10 years of related Graphic Design experience is required.
  • BA/BS in Graphic Design, communication, or related field. A combination of experience and education may be substituted.
  • Expert knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite (Acrobat, InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop).
  • Proficiency in Microsoft PowerPoint(including incorporating animation, video, or other high-level visual design).
  • Experience working with corporate branding and working in multiple brand standards consistently.
  • Experience supporting formatting and layout design of long-form documents.
  • Strong conceptual thinking, and a passion for solving complex problems.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including experience articulating design decisions to non-Graphic Designers.
  • Capable art director with the ability to present and sell own concepts and design ideas to internal and external clients/stakeholders and the humility to receive constructive feedback.
  • Strong project management and coordination skills.
  • Creative problem-solving abilities to identify potential roadblocks, proactively resolve issues, and maintain project momentum.
  • Ability to produce excellent creative visuals and graphics within provided schedule and budget.
  • Experience working directly with senior staff on business-critical projects with minimal supervision; demonstrated experience interfacing with customers at various seniority levels to meet their requirements and collaborating with cross-functional stakeholder groups. 
  • Ability to process visual ideas in sketches, thumbnails, and storyboards.
  • Ability to identify opportunities for visual content within written narratives.
  • Experience in production processes, including experience in communicating with print and production vendors and intellectual property and copyright principles.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Architecture, Engineering and Construction (AEC) industry or professional services experience a plus.
  • Working knowledge of PowerBI, dashboard implementation, and UX/UI principles (including web prototyping and wireframing) a plus.

Salary Range: The anticipated starting pay range for this position is based on the employee’s primary work location and may be more or less depending upon skills, experience, and education.  These ranges may be modified in the future.

Location A:
$78,000.00-$106,000.00

Location B: 
$85,000.00-$116,000.00

Location C:
$93,000.00-$127,000.00
