The Finance Department is currently seeking an experienced and creative Graphic Artist who will perform diverse and technical graphic design work; plan, develop and coordinate graphic design services; operate duplication and printing equipment; perform related duties as assigned.
The ideal candidate possesses knowledge of the fundamentals of functional design with the ability to execute messages in a compelling way. The ideal candidate will be working onsite, providing customer service city-wide that involves advising departments on design projects, executing design using Adobe Creative Suite and QuarkXpress on a PC platform, and operating printing platforms. The ideal candidate will develop deliverables such as logos, brochures, collateral material, website designs, and social media designs that align with the City of Pasadena's Public Information Office's guidelines and style guide. The ideal candidate is experienced in execution of accessibility design for ADA compliance.

Essential Functions

- Responsible for conceptualizing, developing and implementing graphic design for customers.
- Designs, draws or sketches customer's conceptual ideas.
- Recommends the most aesthetic and effective medium for illustrating data to facilitate comprehension of written and oral presentations.
- Designs logos and identity packages.
- Designs collateral materials such as pamphlets, brochures, posters, flyers, postcards, newsletters, e-newsletters, social media, forms, annual reports.
- Recommends methods of visual presentation.
- May act as consultant to management on artistic matters.
- May work with other department staff to ensure that city artistic standards are met and that designs comply with City Style Guide.
- May be assigned to other duties in the Print Shop to meet technical changes or emergencies.

The tentative selection process may consist of a training and experience evaluation, a panel interview, and a department- level interview.
VACANCY INFORMATION
There is currently one vacancy in the Finance department, Printing Services section. The resulting eligibility list from this recruitment may be used to fill this vacancy and similar vacancies in the future.
Candidates selected for this position are subject to a one year probationary work period.
Effective January 1, 2013, new members to CalPERS or an agency with CALPERS' reciprocity or who have more than a six month break in service between employment in a CalPER (or reciprocal) agency will be subject to the provisions of the Public Employees' Pension Reform Act of 2013 (PEPRA) and will receive the 2% @ 62 benefit formula.
Employees who are current members of CalPERS or an agency with CalPERS' reciprocity, or who have less than a six month break in service between employment in a CalPERS (or reciprocal) agency and employment with the City will be enrolled in the 2.5% @ 55 benefit formula.
All employees are required to pay the full employee contribution to CalPERS.
