About the Department
The Grant & Contract Administration, Sr. Analyst, will perform pre- and post-award administration for the Department of Organismal Biology and Anatomy, including managing grants, contracts, subcontracts, material transfer agreements, patents, gifts, protocols, and recharge accounts payable. This position will provide assistance to the faculty in adhering to university regulations for laboratory safety, including coordination of annual inspections and annual reports.
Job Summary
The job provides professional support for pre-award and/or post-award activities relating to grant and contract proposals and funding within a department or unit. Pre-award activities include research, preparing applications, and editing proposals. Post-award activities include compliance monitoring, payment processing, and salary allocations. Performs work with moderate guidance and utilizes knowledge of University and business drivers.
Responsibilities
- Attend Faculty budget meetings.
- Manage the execution of Subawards, Sponsored Consulting Agreements, and Subaward Amendments.
- Interpret regulations and guidelines of multiple sponsor funding programs with broad and complex guidelines for spending.
- Ensure all grant applications meet uniform guidance, sponsor, and University guidelines and requirements and local, state, and federal laws and regulations.
- Coordinate active grant management, including submission of progress reports, non-competing applications, renewal/continual amendments.
- Ensure timely submission of technical reports, just-in-time submissions, no-cost extensions, and agency required rebudgeting.
- Prepare detailed expense budgets based on awards funds from the agency.
- Handles straightforward post-award activities including account creations, regulatory and compliance monitoring, salary allocations, effort reporting, grant projections, cost allocations, cost center charges, equipment inventory, invoice preparation, grant closing process, and account closing.
- Prepares summaries of grants and effort allocations for Principal Investigators, meets with them and responds to their questions. Coordinates with other departments/units/divisions regarding multi-investigator grants. Serves as department contact for annual audits and agency site visits.
- Performs other related work as needed.

Minimum requirements include a college or university degree in related field.

Education:
- Bachelor's Degree in related field.
Experience:
- Three years of experience with grant and contract or related administration.
- Experience with or ability and enthusiasm to learn UChicago grants and contracts, research safety, procurement, financial accounting, and business intelligence administration.
Preferred Competencies
- Knowledge of general accounting standards and auditing.
- Familiarity with federal and non-federal grants policies.
- Time management skills and the ability to handle multiple, concurrent tasks within deadlines.
- Microsoft Office.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Co-operative team building skills and ability to effectively interact with intra- and inter-office personnel at multiple levels.
