Graduate Nurse

Job Summary
Under supervision of a Registered Nurse and following hospital policies and procedures, performs various nursing care tasks and treatments on assigned patients.
Essential Functions

• Performs routine bedside nursing activities including: bathing and personal grooming of patients; ambulating, moving and turning patients; assisting patients with bedpans or urinary devices; making patient beds and caring for personal property.
• Assists in performing additional nursing procedures such as catheterizations, suctioning, irrigating colostomies, applying restraints, giving enemas, douches and sitz baths or pericare.
• Takes vital signs (TPR) and records intake and output.
• Applies and changes sterile and non-sterile dressing using appropriate technique.
• Performs more complex nursing procedures and treatments after theoretical preparation and supervised clinical experience.
• Keeps professional nursing staff advised of current patient status as well as changes in patient condition as they occur.
• Documents accurate, complete and concise patient information on appropriate forms, including flow sheets, activity records, etc.
• Participates in nursing staff conferences, in-services and educational opportunities.
• Ensures the optimum utilization of personnel, supplies and equipment.
• Assists in admitting, transferring and discharging patients.
• Assists in pre-operative and post-operative care.
• Exhibits excellent customer service skills and behaviors toward internal and external customers and co-workers.
• Adheres to department customer service, service excellence, and performance standards.
• Demonstrates personal commitment to the Organization's core values through active involvement in the performance improvement process.
• Demonstrates safe work practices and attitudes, follows safety rules, works to prevent unsafe conditions and behaviors, and participates in organizational and departmental safety programs.
• Completes all required compliance standards that may be department specific and/or identified by the organization.
• Maintains current licensure, registration and/or certification, as applicable, at all times.

Qualifications

• Required Associate's Degree or equivalent Graduate of an accredited school of nursing with an Associate's degree or from an ACEN accredited Diploma program. Must take first available state board (NCLEX) exam after completion of nursing program. May have the opportunity to take the NCLEX exam up to three times if satisfactory work performance (PFS) is maintained. Failure to successfully pass the NCLEX and obtain licensure may result in termination.
• 1 year of relevant experience Minimum of one to three months of supervised progressively more responsible clinical nursing/patient care experience within Beaumont Hospital. Preferred
• LIC-Registered Nurse (RN) - STATE_MI State of Michigan 60 Days required And
• CRT-Basic Life Support (BLS) - AHA American Heart Association 90 Days required Or
• CRT-Basic Life Support (BLS) - ARC American Red Cross 90 Days required
