  • Texas: Engineer – In Training Certification.

Engineer A:
Education and/or Equivalent Experience:
  • Graduation with a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in Engineering or in a field related to the job, plus four (4) years of engineering experience acquired before and/or after licensing as a professional engineer.
Licenses and Certifications Required:
  • Licensed Professional Engineer (P.E.) in the State of Texas; or if currently licensed in another state, must have the ability to obtain a Texas P.E. license within six (6) months of employment.

Engineer B:
Education and/or Equivalent Experience:
  • Graduation with a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in a field related to engineering, plus six (6) years of experience in engineering acquired before and/or after licensing as a professional engineer.
Licenses and Certifications Required:
  • Licensed Professional Engineer (P.E.) in the State of Texas; or if currently licensed in another state, must have the ability to obtain a Texas P.E. license within six (6) months of employment.

This vacancy will be filled at one of the following levels, depending on qualifications:
  • Graduate Engineer B: $35.04 – $44.67
  • Engineer A: $38.97 – $50.67
  • Engineer B: $41.70 – $54.21

POSITIONOVERVIEW:
The position will be member of the newly created Watershed Protection Department Technical Assistance Section. This section will be responsible for a variety of activities related to WPD requests, technical requests from other departments, and technical requests from the public.
Tasks for this group may include technical input regarding: Land Management applications, Drainage Criteria Manual waivers, Austin Utility Location Coordination Committee reviews, Service Extension Requests, Texas Land Application Permits, and Barton Springs Zone Operating Permits.
This will be an exciting position since it will be in a new section with broad goals and responsibilities. This will require exceptional technical, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
EDUCATION:
Verification of education will be conducted on the top candidate.
PROFESSIONALCERTIFICATION/LICENSE:
Engineer A or Engineer B:
Must be a Licensed Professional Engineer (P.E.) in the State of Texas; or if currently licensed in another state, must have the ability to obtain a Texas P.E. license within six (6) months of employment.
Graduate Engineer B:
Must have a State of Texas Engineer-In-Training (E.I.T) Certification.
ASSESSMENT:
An assessment will be given as part of the interview process.

This position does not require a Criminal Background Investigation.
TRAVEL:
If you are selected for this position, and meet the Driver Safety Standards in the City of Austin Driver Safety Program, you may drive when necessary to multiple locations as part of your regular job duties. Otherwise, you are responsible for getting to and from these locations.

Hours
40 hours per week, Monday – Friday with the ability for a 50% telework schedule within a two-week period. Exceptions may apply subject to the business needs of the department.
May require working outside of normal business hours, including evenings, weekends, and
holidays as dictated by business needs.

Preferred Qualifications
Preferred Experience:
  • Familiarity with the City of Austin’s Land Development Code (particularly the drainage and environmental related elements) and Drainage Criteria and Environmental Criteria Manuals.
  • Extensive experience with and ability to demonstrate knowledge of hydrologic and hydraulic analysis of open channel flow and storm drains, including experience and proficiency with hydraulic and hydrologic modeling software such as HEC-RAS, HEC-HMS, StormCAD, PondPak, ICM, etc.
  • Knowledge and experience with design and construction of water quality ponds in the Barton Springs Zone of the City of Austin.
  • Knowledge and experience with wastewater permitting, analysis, or design.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills. A successful candidate should be able to explain drainage and environmental related knowledge to both those with a technical background (e.g. engineers) as well as those without a technical background (e.g. general public).
  • Ability to travel to more than one work location.
