Job Description Summary
Under the direction of the Program Director and the Graduate Programs Coordinator, the Graduate Assistant to the MFAin Creative Writing will support social media, recruiting, special projects, and events.
Responsibilities
Responsibilities will include the following:
Social Media Administration
- Coordinating and streamlining the output of information across social media platforms, including Instagram and Facebook
- Review social media analytics to assess success and recommend improvements for posts
- Assist in the development of social media strategies to increase followership and engagement
- Create regular social media posting schedule of event promotions
- Monitor and respond to social media comments and direct messages in a timely manner
- Make occasional social media posts to cross-promote events hosted by other departments
Monthly MFA Newsletter Development
- Compile and research publication opportunities, as well as staff, student, and faculty achievements for the program's monthly newsletter
- Submit all newsletters to the program director for final approval and make necessary edits
- Develop and maintain production process including content calendar to ensure newsletters are published on time.
- Adhere to and maintain templates and style sheets for the program's communications
- Compile annual achievements for program and college needs
Recruiting Efforts
- Discuss, either by phone, email, or in-person, the student experience with prospective MFA in Creative Writing students and participating in program recruitment events
Special Projects & Events
- Provide administrative and logistical support for any special projects or events sponsored by the program
Program Administration
- Work with students and faculty to submit student accomplishments to the appropriate databases
- Provide administrative support for any special projects or events sponsored by the program
As well as perform other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
Applicants should be enrolled in the Dual MA/MFA or MFA in Creative Writing program for the 2023-2024 academic year.

- Excellent project management skills to consistently meet deadlines
- Strong attention to detail
- Ability to demonstrate good judgment and is discerning about sharing sensitive information
- Experience in copyediting, event planning, social media, design, public speaking, marketing, or other relevant skills is helpful
