Position: Graduate Assistant for Special Populationsand Projects

Schedule: 20 hours per week

Tuition Remission: 8 graduate credit hours of tuition remission during each semester of the award including the summer session and 4 credits over the J-term.

Stipend: $8,000


Description:

Carthage College's Center for Student Success (CSS) is seeking qualified applicants for a Special Populations and ProjectsGraduate Assistant position. Ideal candidates will be enrolled in a two-year graduate program at Carthage College and meet the position requirements below.


CSS facilitates students' successful transition to the College and supports ongoing academic success and persistence through graduation. Center for Student Success staff work closely with other college personnel to holistically address the academic, personal, and social needs of students, with particular focus on supporting underrepresented/underserved student populations. CSS supports students using a data-informed, comprehensive approach which leverages the expertise, influence, and resources of campus partners to support student learning and remove barriers to students' success.


DESCRIPTION OF ESSENTIAL DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES: The Graduate Assistant for Special Populationsand Projects will support the Assistant Dean for Student Success and Wellness and CSS Staff with tasks related to Special Populations and Projects. Duties may include, but not be limited to assisting with:


  • Programming for Special Populations not limited to veteran students, first-generation students, commuting students, and transfer students. Some examples of programming include a commuter student breakfast, a transfer student mentoring program, and a series of first-generation programming, etc.
  • Utilizing Navigate to pull data used identify student needs and issues.
  • Co-advising student groups associated with special student populations
  • Completing program planning tasks, such as room and technology reservations, preparing presentations and facilitating trainings, developing and coordinating marketing and communication, identifying needed supplies and resources, implementing assessment processes, keeping track of related budget items, creating and updating course and programming materials
  • Collaborating with on- and off-campus partners regarding student population opportunities and needs, as appropriate, and to identify and update resources and referral information
  • Assisting with Navigate data-auditing, programming implementation, training and communication as needed
  • Identifying and developing overall wellness needs and initiatives with the Assistant Dean
  • Attend regular CSS staff meetings and one on one meetings with supervisor
  • Attend campus meetings as appropriate
  • Assisting with the implementation of various CSS events/programs
  • Answering emails in the studentsuccess@carthage.edu email account as appropriate
  • Engaging in ongoing professional development by learning best practices, etc.
  • Collaborating with office and campus staff and faculty and contributing to the overall function and mission of the Center for Student Success
  • Providing excellent customer service, demonstrating integrity and initiative
  • Other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: A bachelor's degree is required. Admission into Carthage College's graduate program is required. Excellent organizational, interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills, and strong attention to detail.
