We are privileged to have been selected to provide design services to Massport, DCAMM, and multiple Department of Defense agencies. Working with an integrated team of specialists, the candidate will bring experience in solving the unique challenges of this client type and navigating the special requirements, permitting, and energy needs often inherent to these projects. They will also have many opportunities to connect with peers servicing SMMA’s other market sectors: Corporate, Commercial, Life Science, Higher Education, K-12, and Advanced Technology.

SMMA offers a flexible hybrid working model while also maintaining a commitment to in-studio collaboration and relationship building. We promote a fast-paced, team-oriented, and fun environment that fosters intellectual and creative growth. The candidate will be encouraged to provide new ideas and share knowledge and design research that will advance the firm’s mission and their professional career.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Take an active role in all project phases, from schematic design through construction administration and including master planning efforts
  • Ability to work independently, lead project teams, and partner with knowledge experts to seek out design opportunities and apply best practices
  • Develop the documents to reinforce the design intent while balancing cost, code, constructability constraints, and client expectations
  • Communicate and keep other project team members engaged as the project team leader while mentoring junior staff
  • Conduct quality control review and enforce design guidelines

Requirements:

  • Bachelor of Architecture degree or Master’s degree
  • Architectural Registration with at least 10 years of professional experience, with a special interest in the Government market sector
  • Understanding or direct use of digital tools for BIM, 3D modeling, design visualization, and team and client communication (MS Teams preferred)
  • Strong leadership, written, verbal, graphic communication, and organizational skills

  • High level of interest in conceptual, technical, and managerial aspects of the building design process
  • Familiarity with the development of Contract Documents for Public Bid
  • Familiarity with government criteria, including Unified Facilities Criteria and other applicable military and government facility standards

Digital portfolio and short cover letter must be submitted with the application for consideration.
