No Job Description for a position can possibly include all duties which may be requested by guests or required by the hotel. The objective of all positions is to effectively provide technical & operational direction for the Golf Course maintenance of the Old Course AND Cascades at The Omni Homestead. The following is a summary of the major responsibilities of the position.
Purpose: Responsible for all the duties involving the maintenance of the Golf Course grounds; oversees the maintenance and repair of motorized and other mechanical equipment; and does related work as required
Essential Functions:
- Plan and coordinate the maintenance of Golf Courses; to include greens, tees, fairways, bunkers, annuals, trees, flowers, irrigation, and drainage systems.
- Schedules work and supervises associates and the use of the equipment.
- Assume full responsibility of the Golf Maintenance associates and coordinate associate safety and discipline.
- Create operating plans, create daily work schedules, and assign work by priorities.
- Maintain up-to-date inventories of equipment, chemicals, and maintenance supplies.
- Respond to guest and member concerns.
- Have a thorough understanding of Omni's emergency actions plan and carry out as needed.
- Have a thorough understanding of Omni's job scenarios.
- Must be familiar with Omni's Systems and Services procedures.
- Instructs equipment operators on the operation and care of mowers, backhoes, skid steers, loaders, carts, blowers, string trimmers and other equipment.
- Supervises pesticide applications; operates and calibrates pesticide application equipment; oversees storage and inventory of pesticides; maintains required pesticide record keeping; and supervises and participates in the operation and maintenance of pumps and irrigation and drainage systems.
- Develops and maintain a working relationship with the Director of Golf and Membership Director in reference to course playability, tournament and aerification schedules, as well as play volume and play restrictions.
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Agronomy is required or a related field from an accredited College or University.
- Five years of related experience and/or training.
- Must have a working knowledge of the maintenance of Golf Course tees, fairways, greens and bunkers; seeding and maintenance practices for Golf Course turf; planting, cultivating, pruning, and caring for plants, shrubs and trees; characteristics and proper use of various fertilizers and soil conditioners; herbicides and pest control methods and materials; drainage control methods; and irrigation systems, including wells, pumps and automatic controls.
- Ability to schedule and supervise maintenance work to achieve the most efficient utilization of equipment.
- Ability to train and develop talent.
- Strong Financial Acumen to manage P/L and Budget
- Ability to prepare clear and concise reports.
- Maintain effective employee, member, and guest relations.
- Experience with northern grasses to include bent grass, Kentucky bluegrass, fescue preferred.
- Experience overseeing major tournament preparation with USGA, PGA, NCAA or other major organizations preferred.
- Must possess a valid driver’s license.
- Requires current STATE pesticide applicator license or the ability to obtain one within 90 days.
- Valid CDL upon hire or within 6 months of hire.
- Virginia licensed Commercial Pesticide Applicator or ability to gain reciprocity within 3 months.
- Ability to schedule and supervise maintenance work to achieve the most efficient utilization of equipment.
- Frequently required to reach with hands and arms; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. Must be able to lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
- Spanish speaking and writing skills a plus.
Tools and Equipment:
- Mowers, trimmers, Edgers, Excavation Equipment, Sprayers, Blowers, snow removal equipment and other equipment as needs arise.
Working Environment:
- Indoor work for maintaining equipment, planning, and scheduling.
- Outdoor work in all types of weather
Exposure to various hazardous chemicals.
