Department: Golf Course Operations
Reporting Relationship: Golf Course Superintendent
FSLA Status: Non-Exempt: Part Time, Seasonal
Working Hours: As required
Pay Rate: $15.00

Job Summary: Under the supervision of the Golf Course Superintendent or the Assistant Golf Course Superintendents operate equipment involved in Golf Course maintenance. The Operator participates in a diverse range of activities involved in Golf Course maintenance including daily course preparation, mowing fairways, mowing approaches, mowing rough, other equipment operation, etc. The Operator will be specifically trained to operate specialized equipment and/or to perform specific tasks relative to the maintenance of the Golf Course grounds.
Principal Duties:
  • Operate all basic utility vehicles
  • Safely and effectively operate all fairway mowers
  • Safely and effectively operate all triplex mowers
  • Safely and effectively operate all pull behind blowers
  • Safely and effectively operate all pull behind rollers
  • Safely and effectively operate all rough mowers
  • Safely and effectively assist in divot and ball mark repair
  • Must participate and complete all Basic Safety Training Programs
  • Participates in Golf Course projects including renovations, aerifications, drainage, tree removal, and construction.
  • During the off-season, performs all necessary winter repairs and paints course and tournament paraphernalia as directed by management
  • Perform daily cleaning tasks necessary to keep the maintenance facility clean, organized and safe
  • Inspect all machines and report any deficiencies to the Equipment Technician
  • Wear uniform properly
  • Required to wear personal protective clothing and/or use protective equipment to comply with established safety operating standards.
  • Follow guidelines in the Golf Course maintenance operations manual for each specific task.
  • Perform other functions and routine Golf Course maintenance activities as directed by the Director of Agronomy & Grounds, Head Equipment Manager, Golf Course Superintendent, and Assistant Superintendent
  • Perform any other tasks requested by the management, the Club, or the Owner
Physical, Mental and Visual Skills:
  • Good organizational skills and good verbal communication skills
  • The ability to follow oral and written directions and work in cooperation with fellow employees.
  • Safety consciousness and problem solving skills
  • Ability to visually inspect Golf Course conditioning and club house grounds.
  • Ability to perform physical work; may be required to lift up to 30 pounds frequently. Perform such activities as bending, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, and grasping.
  • Dedication to personal improvement and course advancement
Required Work Habits:
  • Be 18 years old and be able to operate a motor vehicle
  • Reliable transportation
  • Work habits include regular attendance, team work, initiative, dependability, positive attitude, and promptness.
  • Must be able to work holidays and weekends as these are busiest time for the Golf Course.
Educational, Development and Work-Related Experience:
  • High school diploma or equivalent education preferred.
  • Ability to understand and follow directions and operate Golf Course machinery.
  • Successful completion of the Operator training program within 90 days of employment.

Working Conditions:
Works primarily outdoors on Golf Course and clubhouse grounds.

May experience the following:
  • Carbon monoxide fumes from various equipment
  • Work in the elements (Rain, Snow, Cold, etc.)
  • A variety of grinding tools and machines in repair shop (NOT NEEDED)
  • Various insects, compounds, and plants (example – poison ivy)
  • Welding devices with open flame (NOT NEEDED!)
  • Electrical outlets and wiring
  • Equipment in shop on hoists (NOT NEEDED)
  • Grease and oil on equipment and shop floor
  • Hot hydraulic fluids
  • Potentially damaging noise levels
  • Dirt, dust, and grass clippings
  • Flying golf balls
  • Smoke from prescribed burn
  • Potential exposure to pesticides, herbicides, dangerous chemicals and solvents and fertilizers if proper safety procedures are not followed
