PROGRAM(S): Greater Middle East Center
REPORTS TO: GMEC Coordinator
OPENING DATE: 12/8/2023
CLOSING DATE: Open until filled.
REQUIREMENTS: Strong interpersonal, organizational and communication skills. Fluency in at least one major language from the Greater Middle East in addition to English. Knowledge of and connections with local Greater Middle Eastern communities. Must possess a valid driver's license and verification of current auto-insurance and have full use of automobile during work hours.
GENERAL POSITION SUMMARY:
IRCO's newest cultural center, the Greater Middle East Center (GMEC), is an inclusive culturally specific service center for communities from the Greater Middle East, including North Africa, the Middle East, and South Asia. The GMEC Community Outreach Specialist position is part of a bigger Washington County Housing Stability IRCO program and will be regularly participating in Washington County housing stability systems meetings. The position will also build and maintain community relationships and foster dialogue between IRCO, Washington County Housing Stability program and the communities we serve. The Community Outreach Specialist will ensure that diverse community voices are heard that community needs are understood, and that the community is updated about IRCO's progress and any new services available. The Community Outreach Specialist will adhere to all policies, contracts and grant obligations are met.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Participate in Washington County Housing Stability systems meetings.
  • Develop and maintain community contacts with diverse community leaders, IRCO and program external stakeholders.
  • Lead, plan, and facilitate focus groups and community engagement events.
  • Assist in organizing, developing, and maintaining positive relationships with community leaders, coalitions, partners, and key stakeholders, and working collaboratively to maximize civic engagement to work collectively towards systemic change.
  • Assist GMEC's leadership in organizing advisory board engagement and meetings.
  • Work with GMEC and IRCO leadership to organize Community Needs Assessment and Community Events.
  • Outreach to other community-based organizations to build support for GMEC, coordinate activities and avoid duplication of services.
  • Assist in developing culturally specific external communication materials.
  • Prepare internal reports of community engagement efforts.
  • Maintain a record of community needs and communicate them to management in a timely fashion.
  • Support outreach efforts to recruit new Advisory Council members.
  • Ensure that IRCO policies and procedures are followed in all GMEC activities.

SECONDARY FUNCTIONS:
  • Participate consistently in regular IRCO internal meetings.
  • Support IRCO events as needed.

Requirements
JOB SPECIFIC QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Strong interpersonal, organizational, leadership and communication skills. Ability to communicate professionally by email, phone, and in-person contact with people from many different backgrounds.
  • Strong local network within diverse Greater Middle East communities
  • Experience working directly with families from the Greater Middle East communities.
  • Knowledge of social service landscape and understanding of the unique challenges and opportunities facing communities from the Greater Middle East in Washington County and the greater Portland metropolitan area
  • Display strong networking and relationship-building skills.
  • Excellent time management skills
  • Resourceful and skilled at gathering information.
  • Ability to be flexible to perform variety of tasks and activities.
  • Ability to work in a team environment and independently.
  • Basic computer skills. Detail oriented.
  • Available to work occasional evenings and weekends on a pre-scheduled basis.

KNOWLEDGE:
Education: Associate's Degree (3) / Bachelor's Degree Preferred
Experience: 1-2 years of experience is required (3)
Additional Language Required: Arabic, Farsi, Pashto, Dari, or another major language from the Greater Middle East.
Computers: All positions at IRCO require use of a computer and experience working with
Microsoft Products including but not limited to Microsoft 365, Excel, Word, Outlook, and PowerPoint.

Schedule:
The work schedule occasionally fluctuates based on organization or customer needs. This fluctuation may occur with or without prior notice. (3)
Salary Description
$24,300 per year
