Job description

The Global Logistics Manager drives the logistical performance of NWCI through the effective management of carrier partnerships, freight movement activities, and logistical analysis. The Global Logistics Manager is accountable for managing all domestic trucking and ocean shipping carrier partnerships ensuring best cost and service for NWCI. The Global Logistics Manager is also accountable for ensuring that customs and governmental processes, procedures and activities are performed based on global, country port, and mode of transport specific governmental regulations.

Key Accountabilities:
  • Manage freight movement operations that satisfy timelines, costing, and service level expectations.
    • Ensure relationships with carrier partners are developed, meaningful, and effective to achieve high levels of organizational support to NWCI goals on supply chain excellence.
    • Negotiate with carriers, brokers and freight forwarders to ensure the organization receives the best cost.
    • Work with service providers/vendors to satisfy day-to-day needs relating to service level requirements, billing/auditing, inquiries, or project coordination.
    • Provide support for rate quotations and project movements, while also maintaining a file for all pricing requests.
    • Respond to service inquiries or requests originating from buying or store staff.
    • Coordinate regularly with merchandising team including on special events or specific opportunities so freight services support desired objectives.
    • Track shipment movement and inventory flow so merchandise movement satisfies service requirements.
    • Monitor processes and procedures to ensure that all shipping and documentation activities are compliant with all regulatory and governmental requirements.
    • Manage, maintain, and communicate sailing schedules.
  • Ensure documentation efforts are timely performed, meet regulatory or carrier requirements, and provide for efficient billing/payment processes.
    • Manage process of freight billing for payment approvals, accuracy, timeliness, and performance measurements.
  • Provide analysis to freight or depot activity supporting performance metrics, contract negotiations, and service levels
    • Identification and implementation of process improvements that have a positive effect on efficiencies, cost containment, or service levels.
    • Provide advice on container and inventory flow alternatives aimed at alleviating store level container backlogs.
    • Monitor and control freight expenses to satisfy budget goals and unit costs.
    • Manage analysis that provides direction to freight and depot burden tables.
  • Oversee all global freight movement, maintaining a high level of expertise in all areas of US & CUL foreign market shipping.
    • Initiate and develop written procedures for handling each market.
    • Adhere to all domestic and international shipping regulations.
    • Collaborate with the Merchandising during new sourcing ventures so that all import/export rules, procedures, and costs are understood for each destination market.
    • Manage a network of country specific import brokers and global freight forwarders
    • Review duty payments made by brokers on our behalf and authorize payment to CUL Accounting
  • Develop NWCI’s strategy for over the road (OTR) freight within the US including optimizing the use of in-house trucking assets
  • Work with Director on initiatives as may be assigned.

Desired Skills & Experience:
  • Five years working within logistics either at a carrier, distribution, or dispatch level with a focus on overseas exports or relevant experience within international retail procurement
  • Must have experience with ocean carrier contracts or relevant experience negotiating high-value agreements
  • Strong experience working with ocean carriers as this provides the needed knowledge base to understand ocean contracts, shipping requirements, ocean container configurations, etc. preferred
  • Must be proficient with different types of containers used in ocean shipping and cube/weight capacity
  • Must be able to communicate clearly with all levels of company personnel
  • Detail-oriented, organized and the ability to effectively manage multiple priorities
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook
  • Strong user of computer systems with the ability to quickly learn and adapt to new systems
  • Able to work well on their own or within a team
  • Self-motivated to work quickly and efficiently managing all deadlines and targets within time limits
  • Ability to travel internationally
  • Previous grocery and general warehouse management experience working with an export focus preferred
  • Prefer individual whose experience includes providing freight forwarding services to the Caribbean
