Job description

Do you see compliance as a business enabler? Do you have a passion for cutting edge technologies and complex problem solving? Do you enjoy building innovative compliance solutions? Are you passionate about creating the future of Export Compliance? Amazon is looking for a Global Export Compliance Program Manager to provide export classification subject matter expertise and support Global Export shipment operations within Global Trade Services. This role will manage export shipping activities for Amazon's non-inventory (non-retail) businesses and act as the focal point for maintaining and operationalizing the framework for international shipments worldwide to ensure consistent and compliant transactions. Your responsibilities will include creating and leading training for operational teams, conducting document reviews and export classifications, as well as educating and advising internal business and logistics teams on international shipping requirements. To ensure low-friction support to these non-retail businesses, you will serve as the central pathway for shipment and classification escalations, identifying and mitigating physical export risks. You will support typical business shipment processes, as well as irregular inflows such as disaster relief efforts, large-scale export initiatives, and expansions of new shipping arcs. In making decisions, you will act quickly to balance risk and customer experience. You will be responsible for communicating risks, proposals, updates, and strategies to stakeholders. You will act as a leader who can prioritize well, communicate clearly, and have a consistent track record of delivery. You can handle multiple competing priorities in a fast-paced environment while working with multiple stakeholders to develop and scale the program worldwide. The successful candidate will support the export classification program and other strategic projects by working with internal business units and be an innovative compliance leader experienced in diving deep into complex problems and develop requirements for new compliance solutions. The candidate will leverage strong subject matter expertise, a passion for new challenges, be creative, self-directed and a great team player. Candidates should drive continuous process improvement, and collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams. The candidate must possess strong analytical skills and be comfortable working autonomously in a highly demanding and often ambiguous environment. The position requires an individual with strong attention to detail and exceptional organizational skills.
Key job responsibilities
Provide a high level of judgment and subject matter expertise on US and non-U.S. export control regulations, particularly with export classifications (ECCNs) and the international shipping domain.
Advise hardware and software engineering teams on export classification technical parameters
Advise internal businesses on trade requirements for international shipments
Develop and maintain robust international shipping processes that support Amazon's worldwide non-retail (non-inventory) businesses
Drive innovative solutions to further enhance and automate compliance
Monitor changes to export regulations (China semiconductor rule, cryptography, high performance computing, chip manufacturing, etc.)
Manage metrics for management reporting
Create and implement control mechanisms to best meet business goals and compliance requirements
Own leadership communications to stakeholder teams
Escalate to and collaborate with Global Trade Services team leads worldwide and partner with operational and other internal Trade Compliance teams
A day in the life
As a Global Export Compliance PM, you will work with stakeholders across non-inventory businesses including engineers, TPMs and other PMs to support classifying their hardware, software, and technology. This also includes supporting shipment requests and working with compliance operations teams to drive improvements across global processes. In this role, the candidate will drive and scale the Export Compliance program through development of agile, effective, and efficient processes that enable compliance in a dynamic, fast paced environment.
