Summary:

The purpose of the Chief of Staff to EVP, Global Head of Development Operations is to support the Global Head of Development Operations in leading 500+ global organization while transforming Daiichi Sankyo into a leading oncology company focused on improving the lives of patients. The Chief of Staff will play a central role in supporting the Global Head of Development Operations in the formation and management of the newly created Development leadership team and in driving strategy, management and facilitation of key development programs and initiatives. The Chief of Staff will interact regularly with senior leadership and will play a key role in the globalization efforts and expansion of the Development footprint.
Responsibilities:

  • Build a thorough understanding of all core business functions of the organization and apply that knowledge to effectively manage strategic and tactical initiatives in line with company's and R&D vision. Support the Global Head of Development through Development Operations strategic planning, programs and initiatives that will shape and drive operational strategy, excellence and delivery including implementing globalization and footprint expansion plan as well as building new capabilities.
  • Proactive identification of issues and risks that could impact the successful execution of business objectives; Facilitate discussion with relevant internal and/or external stakeholders to fully understand the issues and risk/mitigations, solutions and impact on the business. Empowered by the Global Head of Development Operations to make decisions as needed. Elevate issues about which the Global Head of Development Operations should be aware and frame/position ideas to resolve the problem/mitigate the risks; Accountability for day-to-day business operations as decided by the Global Head of Development Operations.
  • Work with the Global Head of Development Operations, relevant function heads and stakeholders to ensure seamless operation and exemplary decision-making performance at the level of the Development Leadership Team (DLT), Ensure preparation for meetings and coordination and facilitation as well as reporting to GRDC as required.
  • Deliver routine, concise updates on project statuses and next steps to thoroughly prepare Global Head of Development Operations for upcoming discussions, commitments, and meetings; Act as representative for the Global Head of Development Operations in appropriate meetings to gather information, provide input and facilitate efficient decision making.
  • Coordinate GDO core and extended leadership teams and stakeholders globally to ensure effective communication, effective decision making and consensus building where required.
  • Prepare communication in collaboration with change management and communications experts on behalf of the Global Head of Development Operations for stakeholders of all levels both internally and externally (e.G., CRO executives)
  • In conjunction with R&D finance, HR and relevant stakeholders, support the Global Head of Development Operations in ongoing management of budget, capacity, resources and preparation of associated reports.


Qualifications: Successful candidates will be able to meet the qualifications below with or without a reasonable accommodation.
Education Qualifications: (from an accredited college or university)

  • Bachelor's Degree Evidence of high performance at all levels of education required.
  • Master's Degree preferred.
  • PhD preferred.

Experience Qualifications:

  • 10 or More Years Relevant experience with B.S. preferred.
  • 10 or More Years Relevant experience with M.S. preferred.
  • 10 or More Years Relevant experience with PhD preferred.
  • 10 or More Years of prior experience in project management, preferably within the biotech/pharmaceutical industry and consulting within a prominent management consulting firm. preferred
  • 1 or More Years as Chief of Staff to a senior pharmaceutical or healthcare industry or management consulting firm executive with evidence of success. preferred
  • 1 or More Years in suitable preparatory role at a recognized pharmaceutical company or management consulting firm with evidence of high performance and drive for success preferred.
  • Pharma and Oncology experience
  • Demonstrated understanding of pharmaceutical industry.
  • Demonstrated understanding of Oncology markets, innovation landscape and key relevant trends (including healthcare broadly) preferred
  • Prior Evidence of integrating Research, Development, and Commercial activities preferred.
  • Meaningful experience in a multi-national business environment preferred.
  • Successfully supporting an executive's day to day AND strategic needs preferred
  • Professional experience helping/representing patients preferred.
