Wood Specialist Engineering & Consulting Group is currently recruiting for a GIS / Survey Specialist with a strong background in marine/offshore Survey and Geoscience, to join our Survey, GIS and Data Management Team in our Houston office.
This is an exciting opportunity to be part of a growing team that supports a variety of clients, projects, and internal business partners across both the traditional offshore oil and gas sector, and the growing US onshore and offshore clean energy market.
This is a varied and exciting role where the successful candidate will play a key role in advancing the use of GIS and other digital technologies, working alongside engineering teams to support survey and geohazards / site assessments for offshore projects.
Key Responsibilities:
- Manage project GIS databases including data loading, quality assurance and metadata.
- Produce maps, charts, reports and other data deliverables for internal and external issue.
- Develop and maintain map services and other content for web-based GIS portals.
- Respond to project queries daily.
- Collaborate with engineers and designers on pipeline routing and other GIS analysis tasks.
- Participate in project meetings and workshops.
- Contribute to GIS data specifications and other technical material.
- Support internal and external training programs on GIS applications.
- Raise awareness and support the wider adoption of GIS technology through workshops, presentations and marketing materials.
- Develop SOW and specifications for survey acquisition, processing and deliverables.
- Interface with project teams and provide consulting on subsea positioning, geoscience data acquisition and analysis. Liase with project teams on geohazards and siting conditions for subsea infrastructure.
- Perform pipeline routing assessment and develop reports.
- Perform data interpretation and analysis of geospatial datasets in support of Site Assessment Plans and Construction and Operations Plans for offshore wind developments.
Required Qualifications/Experience:
- A Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree (preferable) in GIS, Geomatics or Geoscience field.
- A minimum of 5 years of experience in an engineering support role; experience in oil/gas subsea fields and offshore wind developments is highly desirable.
- A strong working knowledge of AutoCAD, Global Mapper and data exchange with ESRI products.
- Proficient with survey calculations, data collection and interpretation of geophysical survey datasets including multibeam bathymetry, sidescan sonar, subbottom profiler and magnetometer data
- A minimum of 5 years of experience in ESRI ArcGIS products including ArcGIS Server and 3D Analyst.
- Strong SQL Server or related RDBMS skills.
- Experience working with digital elevation models and performing terrain analysis.
- A good understanding of coordinate systems and transformations.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Willingness to work extended hours as required to deliver projects.
- Ability to work well in a team environment to deliver on team goals.
- Self-motivated and requiring minimal supervision.
- Good analytical and problem solving skills.
- Experience working in Microsoft Teams.
Desired Qualifications/Experience:
- Experience on Renewables Energy (Offshore Wind) projects.
- Experience in offshore survey data (eg. ROV, AUV) acquisition, processing and geo-interpretation.
- Knowledge of survey data models e.g. SSDM.
- Knowledge of linear referencing and pipeline data models e.g. PODS, APDM.
- Knowledge of E&P company engineering data models.
- Previous participation in industry-wide advisory boards or task forces.
- Experience in conference presentation or technical paper submissions.
- Experience of automating tasks using Python, ArcGIS Model Builder or FME.
- Experience using ArcGIS Enterprise.
