About the Department
The functions of the Utilities and Engineering Services unit are:

• Operation and maintenance of the high voltage distribution systems for the three NCSU campuses.
• Operation and maintenance of the steam/chilled water plants for the three campuses.
• Operation and maintenance of the cogeneration system on main campus.
• Operation and maintenance of the steam/condensate, chilled water, domestic water/sanitary sewer, storm sewer and natural gas systems for the three campuses.
• Maintain emergency generators and streetlights.
• Maintain air permitting, spill prevention and waste water collection system permits.
• Fuel procurement for the central utility plants and energy management/reporting for the three campuses.
• Maintain database on utility infrastructure assets to monitor condition/capacity to support future growth/upgrades.

Essential Job Duties
This position is responsible for the development and maintenance of the Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and AutoCAD drawings for the Utilities and Engineering Services unit. This activity will include record documentation for over 21 miles of steam distribution piping, 19 miles of chilled water piping distribution, 38 miles of high voltage distribution, 200 miles of domestic water/sanitary sewer and natural gas systems. Accuracy of existing conditions is highly critical in the maintenance and operation of these large utility distribution systems.
Operations staff utilize the GIS system to make key decisions during isolation, shutdown or start up events. This position will maintain GIS data layers relevant to each utility (such as manhole drawings, inverts and valve locations) and create/update/integrate data sets from surveys and other sources. These data sets represent over 10,000 data points in the utility systems. Will prepare and plot maps and load GIS data into various NCSU asset management systems. Maps will also support demonstration of regulatory compliance for the University's Waste Water Collection System Permit.

Qualifications
Minimum Experience/Education
High school diploma or equivalency and one year of experience in the field of technology related to the area of assignment; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.
Other Required Qualifications

• Demonstrated work in a utility based industry or with a firm supporting utility operations and maintenance.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in a utility based industry or firm supporting utility asset management is preferred.
• Demonstrated ability to develop GIS database programs.

Required License or Certification

• Valid Driver's License required.
• NC driver's license within 60 days of hire, must be maintained.
