About the Agency: The Mississippi Department of Transportation is responsible for providing a safe intermodal transportation network that is planned, designed, constructed and maintained in an effective, cost efficient, and environmentally sensitive manner.
About the Position: Supervisory position accountable for providing consultative guidance and technical expertise in geodatabase analysis and design, geographic information application programming, spatial data and technology integration, remote sensing applications, network and route analysis, and web mapping applications. Provides GIS project management and supervision. Develops and analyzes complex specifications such as flowcharts, logic, and work flow diagrams. Supervises GIS professionals.MDOT is seeking a GIS Specialist Team Lead for the Planning Division. The position's primary duties include creating, editing, analyzing, managing, and reporting geospatial data. Examples of this include maintaining our Linear Referencing System (LRS), cartographic mapping, collecting and extracting information from LiDAR point clouds and aerial imagery, along with general GIS data workflows. Additional duties include managing data collection efforts and internal/consultant led data creation or collection efforts statewide. The tools that are utilized to perform this work include desktop GIS and CADD software packages (ex. - ArcGIS, Geomedia, QGIS, Bentley Microstation etc.) along with spatial and relational databases such as Oracle and SQL Server.
What you'll need to be Successful: Organizational skills, attention to detail, adaptability, ability to learn, and critical thinking. Along with these skills, successful candidates will need to be a self-starter, team player, have a good attitude and have good technical writing skills.
Preferred Qualifications: Typically requires a Bachelor's Degree and 3-5 years of experience in GIS. Agency preferred qualifications:Bachelor's Degree in cartography, geography, geographic information systems, or a related discipline and 3-5 years of experience in GIS.
