Job description

Under the general direction of the Clinical Service Manager and in cooperation with all the members of the patient care teams, performs a wide range of customer relations, environmental, and supply functions to fully support patient care activities. Although it is necessary to identify specific tasks relating to this position, the overriding responsibility is to integrate this role into the patient care model to ensure that the patient care team works for the good of the patient: other specific tasks may be added or deleted from the day-to-day operationalization of this position, as the patient care team adapts to the daily needs of the patients we serve. Demonstrates an outstanding commitment to excellent customer service. Patient and family centered care (PFCC) at YNHH is demonstrated by working with patients and their families based on the 4 principles of PFCC: participation, dignity and respect, information sharing, and collaboration. This includes providing service excellence by creating a great "First Impression" by demonstrating exemplary customer service skills for all customer groups including patients, families/friends, physicians, staff and support department personnel.     1. Performs cleaning tasks and responsibilities in accordance with SGNA guidelines to ensure the sanitary condition of the Endoscopy Reprocessing Suite, both Decontamination and Reprocessing rooms
      1.1 Manually cleans scopes upon delivery from procedure rooms to remove organic material and decrease bioburden presence by thoroughly brushing channels following manufacturer's IFUs.
    2. Maintains supply inventory for the Endoscopy Reprocessing Suite
      2.1 Ensures the Endoscopy Reprocessing suite is stocked for daily workflow and tasks
    3. Maintains competency in areas of responsibility and participates in Unit activities that promote a cohesive team.
      3.1 Completes required healthstream courses in a timely fashion
    4. Maintain knowledge of all equipment used and necessary maintenance functions
      4.1 Maintains cleanliness of scope cabinets daily, ensuring that scopes are hung properly and not touching each other or any part of the cabinet
    5. Meets are regulatory and safety requirement in handling chemicals
      5.1 Is knowledgable of the manual cleaning process as per manufacturers IFUs, in conjunction with the IFUs of the enzymatic that is being used in the unit (exposure time, temperature, manual brushing)
    6. Maintains logs as required by regulatory agencies
      6.1 Responsible to maintain all equipment log books
    7. Maintains effective communication lines
      7.1 Anticipate needs of the department by assessing schedule and collaborate with nursing regarding number and types of scopes needed
    8. Works independently
      8.1 Plays a vital role in decision making regarding procedures and equipment needs
    9. Coordinates vendor maintenance/repairs of scopes
      9.1 Provides vendor with detailed information on any scope deficiency or damage
Qualifications:

EDUCATION


High school graduate or educational equivalent.


EXPERIENCE


Minimum of two years of related experience preferably in the GI scope processing.


LICENSURE


Certification from Certification Board for Sterile Processing and Distribution (CBSPD) or International Association of Healthcare Central Service Material Management (IAHCSMM) or agreeable to obtain certification within 2 years from date of hire.


SPECIAL SKILLS


Demonstrated ability to read, write and perform basic math. Ability to work independently, applying knowledge to the entire scope processing procedures. Excellent interpersonal skills. Able to perform as a part of the patient care team. Demonstrates initiative and the ability to coordinate diverse responsibilities. Able to perform skills required for inventory management, decontamination, and high level disinfecting, maintenance responsibilities, coordination of area work projects with other departments.


PHYSICAL DEMAND


Must be able to life a minimum of 50 pounds. Ability to perform tasks of physical endurance and dexterity as required by placement. Consistent use of proper body mechanics required.
