We are looking for an experienced and motivated individual to fill the position of Geophysicist (Seismic Processing) within our Headquarters Geophysical Function group based in Houston, TX.
Description:
The Geophysicist will be responsible for providing seismic processing geophysical support for all departments by:
1. Running bespoke, fast-turnaround in-house seismic processing projects, and
2. Providing quality assurance of external seismic processing projects under the guidance of Oxy’s senior seismic processing QC specialists. The successful candidate must have a keen desire to apply new, innovative, and off-the-shelf workflows to improve the quality of Oxy’s seismic data.
Qualifications:
- Masters or PhD degree with a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience OR Bachelor's degree in a petrotechnical discipline with a minimum of 10 years of relevant Geoscience experience required
Skills:
- Expertise processing offshore seismic data (towed streamer and OBN) with significant Gulf of Mexico experience.
- Expert in seismic processing fundamentals (wavelet processing, deconvolution, statics, multiple and noise attenuation, PSTM and PSDM, survey merging).
- Knowledgeable about advanced seismic processing workflows (RTM, LSM, FWI, Compressive Sensing, Deblending, Rank Reduction Filtering, Curvelet transforms, …). Knowledgeable about impact on amplitude fidelity of seismic acquisition and processing steps. Must have clear understanding of modern QC processes.
- Significant experience independently running / managing multiple large, complex seismic processing projects simultaneously.
- Creative thinker with a desire to challenge the status quo and conventional thinking with the ability to implement new ideas, processes, and technologies. Experienced creating new seismic processing workflows (Omega preferred). Coding experience (Fortran, MATLAB, Python, etc.) for workflow development.
- Must be a team player with strong interpersonal skills and possess the ability to mentor others.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to present work product, technical information, and evaluations in an effective manner, both verbally and in written format. Publication experience (for example, IMAGE conference) highly desirable.
