Job description

We are seeking a Mid-level Geologist to support a wide variety of environmental projects. The preferred candidate will have field experience working at Superfund and other contaminated sites, leading field programs, preparing planning documents and preparing reports for environmental characterization and remediation projects.
As a member of this team, you would contribute to CDM Smith's mission by:
  • Performing surface and subsurface soil sampling, rock classification, monitoring well installation, oversight of drilling contractors, groundwater sampling, and hydraulic testing to support environmental projects.
  • Performing geologic evaluations, and/or hydrogeological investigations; describing geologic conditions, and preparing logs, contour plots and cross-section diagrams
  • Assisting with 3D visualization and applying innovative tools in the field
  • Performing environmental compliance monitoring
  • Reviewing draft assessments and calculations with respect to federal, state and local regulations.
  • Working on a variety of assignments, which may include work plans, field studies, research investigations, data interpretation and evaluation, and report preparation.
  • Ensuring that firm policies and practices are followed on all assessments.
  • Independently evaluating, selecting, and applying standard techniques, procedures, and criteria.
  • Using professional judgment and knowledge of principles/techniques in making minor adaptations and modifications.
  • Learning task management techniques and the CDM Smith management system.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Science or related discipline. 3 years of related experience. Domestic and/or international travel may be required. The frequency of travel is contingent on specific duties, responsibilities, and the essential functions of the position, which may vary depending on workload and project demands. Equivalent additional directly related experience will be considered in lieu of a degree.

Preferred Qualifications

  • The preferred candidate will have completed 40-hour OSHA HAZWOPER training.
  • The preferred candidate will be a Professional Geologist or on track to become a Professional Geologist.
  • The preferred candidate will have experience working at Superfund sites.
  • Extensive field experience and demonstrated ability to lead complicated field programs at contaminated sites.
  • Proven experience preparing planning documents, procuring and coordinating with subcontractors, and directing junior staff for field programs at contaminated sites
  • Proven experience in data evaluation and report preparation for environmental assessment, remediation, field investigations, construction oversight activities.
  • Masters degree or experience in hydrogeology, geochemistry, geophysics, modeling, or other specialized subfield.
  • Previous task management or project management experience desired.

Skills and Abilities

Expert Knowledge of computer assisted design and drafting (CADD) 3D and 4D software and practices. Solid knowledge of scientific methods and processes. Expert Knowledge of Microsoft business software (excel, word, etc.). Excellent verbal and written communications skills.
