Metra is one of the largest and most complex commuter rail systems in North America, serving Cook, DuPage, Will, Lake, Kane, and McHenry Counties. The agency is linking communities in Northeastern Illinois by providing safe, reliable, and efficient service.
The Mechanical Department is in charge of all rolling stock, which includes 150 locomotives, 845 coach cars, 186 highliners, and 530+ fleet vehicles. The Mechanical Department ensures that rolling stock operates safely, effectively, and efficiently throughout the Metra System. Mechanical Department performs all Federal Railroad Administration (FRA) inspection, including daily, quarterly, semiannual, annual, Tri-annual, quad, etc., and provides daily cleaning services of all rolling stock. In addition, the Department purchases new equipment, rehabilitates, perform modification, maintenance, and wreck repairs, to all rolling stock to help improve state of good repair and on-time performance.
Responsible for cleaning and maintaining passenger cars and equipment.

Job Requirements
- Must have experience in manual-type labor that includes functions such as climbing, reaching, bending, pushing, and pulling.
- Required to lift and carry up to 30 lbs of water to mop floors.
- Experience using shop and highway vehicles, brooms, mops, and hoses.
