Job Responsibilities

Surgeon shall be On-site Board Certified/Board Eligible Cardiothoracic Surgeon to deliver onsite Open-Heart Cardiothoracic Surgery services, which shall, but not be limited, to initial patient evaluation at inpatient, outpatient and Emergency Department (ED) settings and surgical procedures at Operating Room and post op care, including tasks related to Cardiothoracic Surgery Consult (operation not recommended), Permanent Pacemaker Implant (in emergency cases), Pacemaker Lead Extraction (back up), Pericardial Window and/or Pericardiectomy Procedures, back up for Interventional Cardiology (PCI) cases in accordance with the terms and conditions contained herein to beneficiaries of the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) and VA Caribbean Healthcare System (VACHS) at San Juan Puerto Rico.

We are seeking to physicians. One physician to be available onsite for scheduled elective clinical procedures and patient evaluations at clinic on Mondays and Wednesdays from 7:00am to 3:30pm. On-call coverage is required to provide evening/overnight coverage on Mondays and Wednesdays from 4:00pm to 7:00am (15 hour coverage) when clinic has closed. On-call weekday coverage on Tuesday, Thursday, Friday and weekends/holidays (24 hours daily coverage) for emergency cases and Cath Lab procedures; as needed, surgeon will be called to be on-site as stand by for specific/elective Cath Lab procedures during the week; in addition this physician needs to attend scheduled meetings on Friday mornings from 7:30–8:30 am for discussion of cases. This physician must be available on-site within one (1) hour of notification for back up and/or emergency cases.

Qualifications

1. License: Physician(s) shall have a current license to practice medicine in any State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States or the District of Columbia when services are performed onsite on VA property. All licenses held by key personnel shall be full and unrestricted licenses. Contractor's physician(s) who have, or ever had, a license restricted, suspended, revoked, voluntary revoked , voluntary surrendered pending action or denied upon application will not be considered for contract award.

2. Board Certification: All physician(s) shall be Board Certified /Board Eligible by the American Board of Thoracic Surgery and be currently certified in Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) or equivalency.

3. Technical Proficiency: Physician(s) shall be technically proficient in the skills necessary to fulfill the government’s requirements, including the ability to speak, understand, read and write English and Spanish fluently.

4. Degree: Doctor of Medicine, Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine or equivalent from a school in the United States or Canada. This degree must have been accredited by the Council on Medical Education of the American Medical Association; Association of American Medical Colleges: Liaison Committee on Medical Education; Commission on Osteopathic College Accreditation of the American Osteopathic Association or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained.

For all grade levels and positions, applicants must possess a current, active, full, and unrestricted license or registration as a Physician from a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States.
