Job description

EXHAUSTED BY THE FRANCHISE OR CORPORATE STORE?

Read this ad!

We value people as much as we value profit.

The air is uniquely clean here (no gossip, no BS, no posturing, we tell the truth in meetings without ego).

This team is fired up to hit metrics that put our dealership in the top 1% of independent dealers in Idaho, with the highest reputation for taking care of customers.

Good Life Motors is looking for a GM to take us to the next level.

Personality traits we’re looking for:

  • Unwavering commitment to personal integrity and the integrity/reputation of the store
  • A turn-key operator that strives for quality of work/life balance but also is the Alpha and Omega of our store. Accountable and rewarded for all aspects and movements of our dealership.
  • Open to mentorship in the arenas you don’t naturally master and advance in the areas you do.
  • People define you as a self-starter, coach and player, risk-taker, and accountable to produce results.
  • You pay attention to detail and you’re open to working on your weaknesses while maximizing your strengths.
  • You view staff with empathy, compassion, and a desire to see them elevate through a realistic approach and accountability.
  • Employee & customer-focused
  • Results-driven… via a solid foundation of processes and regularly measured KPI’s.

Here are some traits of candidates we’re NOT looking for:

  • You need a big fancy office, desk, and demo car
  • You prefer to manage from behind the curtain rather than on the front lines
  • Your #1 priority is your paycheck

Qualifications:

  • Deep used car experience
  • Ability to attract and retain talent
  • High customer-engagement management style
  • Track record of success as a Salesperson, Sales Manager, and Finance producer
  • Ability to interpret dealership financial statements
  • Expert time and task management skills
  • Must have a clear understanding of the KPIs of a successful service department
  • Excellent verbal and written communication
  • Highly organized
  • You possess a history of successfully building and training sales teams, strong CSI scores and above average gross and net profits in the Sales and Fixed Ops depts
  • You measure and own our ESI (Employee Satisfaction Index)
  • Strong background in building showroom and internet traffic, SEO and SEM, direct mail and other traditional media
  • Extensive background in leading a BDC department
  • Experience in Used Vehicle purchasing, merchandising and marketing
  • Expertise in supervising the everyday efforts of desk managers and improving F/I income through mentorship and training

The GM has latitude to operate in any way that produces results within the vision and values cast by the owner. Main responsibilities are:

  • Ensure proper follow up of all prospective customers by developing, implementing, and monitoring a CRM system
  • Establish world class delivery procedures and monitor performance and execution
  • Guarantee that each car delivery includes a highly tuned introduction to the service department and scheduling of the first service appointment
  • Achieve forecasted goals and objectives for sales and service gross profits, and key expenses, on a monthly and annual basis

(Admin and Fixed Ops)

  • Have a strong understanding of the key drivers in the fixed ops department to drive growth and profitability of the service center
  • Understand all functions of the Admin team to lead and troubleshoot problems and streamline success (accounting, HR, facilities, titles)

Experience Required:

  • Auto Dealership General Manager (Preferred)
  • Auto Dealership GSM
  • Clean background, Driver's License with clean driving record (Required)
  • Longevity (5 years+ at a single store)

  • Drive Sales Volume to maintain an average of 75% monthly inventory turnover.
  • Do not let vehicles age beyond 80 days. The average age including transport and recon time = 55 days.
  • Maintain a 4.9 review rating on Google, and grow to a 4.8 or better on Yelp, Carfax, Car Gurus, Cars.com with real customer reviews

Owner is open for expansion, land acquisitions and increased bay space based on performance.

Here are some of the lessons that I have learned along my 17 year journey of building Good Life Motors. These principles are woven into the fabric of the company we’ve become.

  • Fail forwards - make a mistake (once) and then figure out how that mistake will never happen again. Improve our process and we’ve taken a turtle step forward.
  • Keep the air clean. No gossip. You have a beef - you can only take your beef to the person who can fix your beef.
  • Daily turtle steps. One small, intentional, focused step every day. Slow and steady wins the race. Slow is smooth and smooth is fast.
  • 5% more. Find the tipping point and just give 5% more to massively tip the scales. Mexico house.
  • Contagious generosity - the lesson of the chalice. You reap what you sow.
  • Tell the Truth. No hiding, filtering, posturing. Truth builds trust, trust builds momentum and accelerates business like magic. Use 3rd grade language. Own the good, the bad, and the ugly.
  • Magical moments. Honor and celebrate people. Praise MORE - jab less. Do Maslow’s assessment hierarchy.
  • The Vow of Silence (apprenticeship, attitude of curiosity and wanting to seek first to understand, two ears/one mouth, stop interrupting with what you want to say - it closes your ears to what others are saying. Ask lots of questions and take notes.
  • Surrender. God is going to bless what we let go of. We’re not going to force a damn thing here. We are wading out into a river of immense power way beyond our ability to manipulate. So what we’re doing is figuring out where in the river we belong, use what tools we know how to use, and the river is going to carry us to the destination.
  • The rope. How to properly delegate. The tension between trust and control. If you don’t have the trust of your teammates, and you don't trust them, they will always feel controlled and you will always feel out of control. Follow the four steps of delegation.
  • Communicate. No messages in a bottle. The Race Car.
  • Unity. Same page conversations. Trudge.
  • Bring the energy into the room that you wish to transfer.
  • Don’t run past people. People and profit are indispensable. Slow down.

My name is Brad Tibbs, owner of Good Life Motors. I started with one piece of junk gray pickup in 2006 and flipped it into what is now over 100 vehicles on the lot ranging in price from $15,000 and $40,000. This company is ready to go to the next level, and I need a strong, experienced, forward-thinking GM to help us get there. We have great momentum and very attainable KPI‘s that will be transformational for the company over the next 12 months - with the right person partnering with me as the GM. If this job description resonates strongly with you, I encourage you to apply now and begin a conversation with me. If what you read repels you, thank you for your time, we’re not a good fit. We’re looking for a very specific person that is a good fit for us and for whom our company is a good fit as well.

Most resumes we get have inaccurate or out of date info that costs lots of time (and trust) to get right. Take a few minutes to make sure your resume is current and accurate. Also, if you apply from this site (the only way we can get you in our queue), I'd also ask that you text me personally at 208-891 -5596 and tell me what is the best advice you're ever been given. Thank you very much for your consideration!
