Title: General Maintenance Technician
Program/Dept: Maintenance
Reports to: Facilities Manager
FLSA Status: Non-Exempt
Work Hours: Monday - Friday 3pm-11pm
Compensation: $43,000 - $48,000, based on experience, plus 10% shift differential for working 2nd shift

Minimum Qualifications:
- Basic knowledge of carpentry, plumbing, painting, masonry, and grounds keeping. Experience and/or specialized training in carpentry, plumbing, or other trades preferred.
- Able to effectively use a variety of hand and power tools.
- Able to safely operate lawn and grounds equipment.
- Able to lift up to 50 pounds and climb, lift, bend, and stand 90% of time.
- Able to work in all weather conditions and perform snow removal and grounds work.
- Maintain a valid Pennsylvania driver's license and have a safe driving record.
General Duties and Responsibilities:
Under the direction of the Facilities Manager, the General Maintenance Worker is responsible for minor repairs, preventative maintenance, and the overall safety and cleanliness of VFES buildings, grounds, roads, walkways, vehicles, and equipment.
Specific Duties and Responsibilities:
- Perform minor repairs including but not limited to: painting, drywall, patching, sanding, carpentry, masonry, electrical, and plumbing. Perform preventative maintenance as directed.
- Exterior painting - curbs, speed bumps, directional arrows.
- Check on and complete work orders as assigned.
- Replace filters and light bulbs, normally at heights of twelve feet or less.
- Replace ceiling tiles and repair floors - replace carpet tiles, tiles, and cove base.
- Install and repair safety cover for thermostats, pull stations, exit signs, and sprinklers. Inventory and replace HVAC filters.
- Check bulbs, change ballasts, clean and replace fixtures.
- Hang pictures, plaques, and banners.
- Maintain security of campus buildings including checking, opening, closing and locking doors and windows.
- Move and build furniture, equipment, and materials as needed. Anchor furniture to walls as appropriate.
- Transport incoming deliveries and other supplies to appropriate buildings, unpack/assemble as needed.
- Prepare rooms and outdoor spaces for special events. Set up chairs, tables, and other items following directions.
- Clean walks, remove snow, and apply de-icing solutions.
- Operate all lawn and grounds equipment, including power mowers and snow blowers to ensure grounds are properly maintained. Perform minor mechanical work as needed. Cut and trim grass.
- Perform safety inspections on equipment.
- Help maintain golf carts - oil changes, tire pressure, battery replacement, fuel.
- Help maintain lawn mowers - oil changes, tire pressure, change blades, fuel.
- Help maintain vans - replace windshield wipers, remove trash, vacuum, fuel. Report maintenance issues to supervisors.
- Assist custodial staff as needed. May operate vacuum cleaners, strippers, buffers and mop wringers; assist gathering trash, use mops, brooms, brushes, soap, cleaning fluid, floor wax and other material related to building cleaning.

- Comply with all organizational policies and procedures including those stated in the VFES Policies & Procedures manual and additional verbal and written communications provided to staff members.

- Attend and actively participate in staff meetings, trainings, and other meetings as required.
- Perform related duties, special assignments and projects as assigned.
