POSITION SUMMARY
Under close supervision, the duties of a General Laborer may vary from day to day, based on the needs of the Company. Duties may include cleaning and preparing a job site, loading and delivering materials, and using a variety of tools.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIESMAY INCLUDE THE FOLLOWING: Because Eastern
Shipbuilding is continually growing to meet the needs of our customers, the essential duties and responsibilities may be different than described.
· Regular attendance at work and the ability to work flexible hours, including overtime, weekends, and holidays.
· Comply with company, Federal, State, and local safety, ethics, and environmental rules, regulations, and policies while performing duties.
· Empty trash containers in the shipyards on a regular basis as needed.
· Using the water truck, deliver water coolers to the various shipyard worksites and water bottles to the offices on an as-needed basis.
· Properly care for and use hand and power tools.
· Perform general cleaning of various parts of the ships.
· Make sure the shipyards, ditches, and adopted highways are kept clean of trash.
· Cut and maintain grass as needed.
· Perform other duties as assigned.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
This position has no supervisory responsibilities.
REQUIREMENTS
Education/ Experience: High school diploma or GED equivalence plus prior manual labor experience desired. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
Skills: Ability to read and comprehend written, oral, or diagram forms. Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written or oral form. Knowledge of the safe operation and use of hand and power tools.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to communicate. The employee is frequently required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms. This position is very active and requires standing, walking, bending, kneeling, stooping, crouching, crawling, and climbing throughout the workday. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. The employee must be physically and medically qualified to wear all required personal protective equipment, as prescribed under Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) standards. The employee must be able to work above ground at heights of a minimum of 50 feet aloft and/or working from scaffolding and/or man-lifts while working with machinery; in confined spaces and withstanding extreme heat and cold in an outside climate or confined space.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. The employee may be exposed to the risk of electrical shock, moving mechanical parts, vibration, fumes, airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, continual loud noise, and other hazards found in a heavy industrial shipyard environment. Rigorous compliance with safety procedures, policies, and personal safety equipment requirements is therefore mandatory.
